Moon Knight Season 2 has been teased by the show’s lead actor, Oscar Isaac, and this is something that we’ve wanted to see ever since we watched the first season. For some reason, Marvel has been playing rather coy as far as a second season is concerned. I’m not quite sure why, but it seems as though plans have been set in motion for a second season over at Marvel Studios. Let’s get into the weeds of this story.

There has been a lot of talk about whether the Marvel series would be getting a second season or not. Isaac was asked about a second season during a panel at New York Comic-Con. Here’s what the actor had to say on the matter (via IGN):

All I can say is that it’s not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight.

This isn’t the first time that there has been talk about a second season. It does seem as though people involved in the first season are desperate for a second one to be given the green light by Marvel Studios. The show’s head writer, Jeremy Slater, spoke about whether a second season could happen during an interview with The Playlist:

I honestly have no idea. I haven’t had any conversations with Marvel. I think a lot of those decisions are ultimately going to be in the hands of Kevin Feige because he’s the guy with the master plan.

It does seem as though Isaac’s popularity could count against a second season being renewed. He’s not tied to a typical MCU-style contract, which was revealed by Slater in the same interview. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Oscar has the ability to do as much or as little Moon Knight as he wants to. I think he had a great time playing the character, and I think he really enjoyed the process and is happy he did it. But I also think he’s not a guy who’s going to rush in and just sort of churn out a sequel just because the first one was popular.

Why has Marvel Studios officially announced it yet?

However, Slater did want to stress that he does see huge potential with a second two.  In an interview with Inverse, he revealed that the character’s complexity could easily drive a second season – and beyond. Here’s what he said:

Everything is in service of the greater good. But is he going to be a friend? Is he an enemy? I think all those are really exciting questions for whoever takes up the reins. Whoever gets to tell the next Moon Knight story, whether that’s me or someone else, that is an exciting promise. This guy’s story is definitely not done.

Moreover, after the first two episodes of the show aired on Disney Plus, writer Mohamed Diab revealed to Collider the following:

Moon Knight is staying, staying for a long time.

However, Diab wasn’t sure whether this meant that they would ever get to make a second season of the show.  He also suggested that the Fist of Khonshu could simply show up in another MCU project instead. During an interview with SFX Magazine, Diab revealed that he thinks the character will definitely return to the MCU.

If you ask me, I would tell you that [he] is here to stay. He’s an interesting character. If you are Marvel, I think the smart business decision is to keep him. The only thing is, Marvel is not traditional. If you succeed, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna get a Season 2. By the way, I’m kept in the dark. I have no clue. I’m just thinking as a businessman right now. But I think they’re going to stay.

Maybe it’s going to be a film. Maybe it’s going to be a journey like what happened with WandaVision. I wish one day, if there is an expansion, I would be a part of it. We ended in a way that feels like a beginning. You see Mark and Steven becoming a new dynamic, the two of them in one body. We see Jake. You see the Scarlet Scarab, who could be a superhero or not. Very interesting stuff.
