So, it looks like Michael Fassbender is currently in talks to return as Magneto in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie that Peyton Reed could direct.
So, first things first, where does this information come from? Well, it’s actually first-hand information. Yes, I know that many people will be saying something along the lines of “sources” and “trust me, bro”, but what I’m going to do here is give you a first-hand account of what I saw and what was overheard.
There have been some rumours for quite some time suggesting that Michael Fassbender might be about to make a return as Magneto and that he will be turning up in the MCU. Personally, I think that would be incredible because Fassbender is an excellent Magneto, and it would be really interesting to see him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, these have just been rumours so far, and there have been reports that Fassbender’s not all that interested in returning to the role. That said, I have also heard rumours that he might be making a cameo in the upcoming Deadpool And Wolverine. Honestly, it sounds like everyone, and anyone is going to be in that movie.

That’s enough preamble – onto the stuff that matters. I won’t go into too many specifics because there are individuals involved in this story, and I don’t want to get them into trouble. What I will say is that earlier this week, I was at a swanky hotel in the heart of London. I won’t tell you which one, however, I will say that it’s one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever been in.
I was lucky enough to be in the members’ lounge of this rather exclusive lounge and was informed that Peyton Reed would be dropping by at some point during the day. This caused my ears to prick up. “Peyton Reed, you say…? The director of the Ant-Man movies…? I wonder what he’s up to…”
That’s what went through my head. So, what I decided to do was wait and see what might happen and what Peyton might be up to. Well, imagine my surprise when none other than Michael Fassbender walks into the lounge, and goes to start chatting with Peyton.

I was then informed that the waiters were told to make sure that the part of the lounge that Reed and Fassbender were sitting in was unoccupied. The two started to chat. Drinks and food were brought over. This was around lunchtime, so they had something to eat and drink while talking.
I was desperate to know what they were talking about, so I tried to get as close to the pair as I could. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear anything. However, I was later informed by a person (who will remain unnamed) who managed to get into the part of the room where Reed and Fassbender were having their private chat that the words “X-Men,” “Marvel,” “Kevin,” and “Magneto” were said multiple times.

This really got me interested, and so I started to do some digging and some thinking. Could this mean that the two of them were talking about a future Marvel Studios project, a potential return as Magneto for Fassbender and maybe an X-Men or Secret Wars movie…?
Well, I did some research, and Peyton has been asked about doing an X-Men movie before, and he straight up said that he had no interest in making it. In an interview with Collider he revealed he wasn’t interested in helming an X-Men movie.
Here’s what Reed had to say about potentially making an X-Men movie for Marvel Studios:
I’m not an X-Men guy. Jeff Loveness, he’s an X-Men guy. I love the X-Men, I love watching X-Men movies. I don’t want to make an X-Men movie.

But could it be possible that Kevin Feige really wants Reed to make the movie for Marvel? I mean, everybody has their price, and I’m sure that Reed could be persuaded to make the movie if he thought it would be interesting enough.
Then there’s Secret Wars, which Marvel is already deep into development on. Could Marvel be lining Reed up for Secret Wars, and he’d, therefore, have to chat with all the actors involved in the project? That could also be a possibility.

The fact that “Magneto” and “X-Men” were mentioned makes me think that Reed might very well be involved in bringing the mutant to the big screen for Marvel. What I do know is that Marvel Studios is no longer interested in hiring relatively unknown directors to helm their movies.
They want to have a safe pair of hands to make their upcoming movies, and Reed is a pretty safe bet. He’s already made three movies for Marvel: Ant-Man, Ant-Man And The Wasp, and Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. The Ant-Man movies have performed pretty well at the box office and are generally liked by audiences and critics alike.
We’re going to have to wait and see what happens, but it does seem as though something is cooking over at Marvel Studios and Peyton Reed is involved.
