Mephisto seems to be coming to the MCU with a report suggesting that a Disney Special for the character is being filmed right now. We’ve been waiting for Marvel’s most famous demon for some years now.
I think many of the fans thought at some point that he might show up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in WandaVision, or in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. His world was even hinted at in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.
The first time Mephisto was actually referenced in the MCU was back in the first Avengers film. A S.H.I.E.L.D. file about the Tesseract clearly shows the name. However, nothing else can be understood from the document itself.
So, fans are expecting the demon to show up already. It’s been a long time coming. Just last year, it was reported that comedian Sacha Baron Cohen would be cast as the demon.
It was also reported that he would be showing up in Dominique Thorne’s MCU Disney Plus series, Ironheart—a spin-off series based on a character who first appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

An industry insider Jeff Sneider said on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic Podcast that Sacha Baron Cohen is currently filming Mephisto on the set of Agatha: Coven on Chaos. Sneider said that the Mephisto is being developed as a Marvel Special. Similar to Werewolf by Night, which is like a TV movie but less than an hour.
The news about the special is not new; there were already reports about it a year ago. But we haven’t really heard any confirmation about it. So, hearing this now that they are already shooting the special makes it exciting news.
To hear that Mephisto is currently being filmed at the set of Agatha: Coven of Chaos does make us wonder if Mephisto will show up in the WandaVision spinoff too on top of Ironheart. It’s not far off, and so far, to me, it’s pretty logical too.
His appearance in Agatha is not much of a surprise since there were references to the character in WandaVision. Mephisto is practically Satan in the Marvel Universe, though that is what he wants people to believe.
In the show WandaVision, Wanda had children, Billy and Tommy, who were created by her own powers. But in another universe, she knows that the boys are, in fact, real, which was tackled in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In the comics, Wanda took Mephisto’s life essence to give her children souls. At some point, Mephisto took them back, which made them cease to exist.

The supernatural has entered the MCU. With WandaVision introducing witchcraft, Werewolf by Night introducing monsters, Moon Knight introducing Egyptian mythological gods. And we are already expecting vampires at some point since Blade is already in production with Mahershala Ali in the starring role.
Mephisto’s entering the MCU could lead to many things. One of those is the possible appearance of Lilith, who is his former wife. When she enters the Marvel Universe, it is expected that The Midnight Suns will form up to defeat her. In the comics, the Ghost Riders Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze formed the team, which was originally called The Midnight Sons.
The demon can travel through the multiverse, which has already been introduced in the MCU. And as we’ve seen in, She-Hulk, Mephisto’s universe is accessible. While he is powerful in every sense of the word, his powers are tied to his universe. He grows weaker the longer he is away from his realm. Because of this he typically manipulates people into doing what he wants.
I’m excited to see Sacha Baron Cohen be Mephisto. I can believe that he can be a smart manipulative demon. Cohen is a very flexible actor as he has done comedy and drama flawlessly. The Marvel Mephisto Special, if it is true that they are shooting it, it would be interesting to see his character’s point of view.

This demon possesses the ability to travel around the multiverse, which has been covered previously in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
