It’s been reported that Sacha Baron Cohen is going to be playing Mephisto in the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney Plus series, Ironheart. However, I wanted to find out whether those rumours and reports were true or not, because it they are, then it would be a huge deal.
Marvel fans have been clamouring for Mephisto to be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Back when WandaVision was airing on Disney Plus, there were countless reports suggesting that Mephisto was going to be brought into the show. There were also a whole bunch of theories online about how Mephisto is really a rabbit.
Will Mephisto finally come to the MCU?

However, it was then revealed not to be the case, and WandaVision’s director, Matt Shakman, actually revealed that the rabbit was going to be a demon. Shakman revealed this during an appearance on Kevin Smith’s podcast. He revealed that there was a deleted scene from the show’s finale in which Darcy, Monica, and Ralph faced off against a demon, hinting at the presence of a character many wanted to see in the show — Mephisto.
Shakman talked about a plan they had for Agatha’s rabbit, Señor Scratchy, that ultimately didn’t make the cut “because the finale had so many different chess pieces.”
“We did have a whole sequence where Darcy, Monica, and Ralph meet up with the kids in Agatha’s house, and they think they should steal the Darkhold from the basement because the kids had seen it when they were down there being held hostage by Agatha,” Shakman revealed.

He continued: “And they go down there to get the book and the rabbit hops up in front of the book. And they’re like, ‘Oh it’s Señor Scratchy he’s the best,’ and they reach over to pet him. And then this whole ‘American Werewolf in London’ transformation happens and the rabbit turns into this big demon. And then this whole ‘Goonies’ set-piece ensues where they try to escape from the rabbit.”
So, it sounds as though there were plans to bring in a demonic character into the MCU in WandaVision. However, they decided against it, and fans have been wondering when Mephisto would finally come to the MCU. One of the big reasons why Marvel Studios might have been rather cautious about bringing the character into the mainstream MCU movies and TV shows is because of China.
China doesn’t really matter to Marvel anymore…

Any references to the Devil will get your movie or TV show banned in the country, and Marvel was getting quite a bit of box office revenue from the Chinese market. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness failed to get a Chinese release and both movies ended up doing pretty darn well at the box office.
So, maybe Marvel and Disney are starting to look away from China and this means that they can finally bring Mephisto into the MCU. And, if they are, then I think that Sacha Baron Cohen was born to play the role. The news that he’s been cast as the character came from Deadline, and they have a pretty solid track-record.
Looks like Mephisto is coming to the MCU!

So, it seems as though Mephisto is coming to the MCU and he will be playing by Baron Cohen, which is excellent. Dominique Throne, who will be playing Riri Williams in Ironheart, was asked about the rumours in a recent interview with ComicBook.com, and here’s what she had to say on the matter:
Oh man, the series is on its way. We just finished filming, actually, on November 2 and I think there’s a lot for fans to sink their teeth into, especially if they enjoyed what they got to see of Riri Williams in a whole other world that was not her own. I think they might be in for a good time, stepping into a world that is her own.
Ironheart will be coming to Disney Plus in the autumn (Fall in the United States) of 2023.
