The future will belong to Batman villains in DC Films’ future! Matt Reeves is planning a bunch of Batman spinoff movies that will focus on the Dark Knight’s rogue’s gallery, and some of the characters he’s looking at are Scarecrow and Clayface! This news comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, and this news is very, very exciting to me because I love the idea of seeing a spinoff movie all about Scarecrow or Clayface. Batman’s villains are so interesting and can sometimes take some of Batman’s thunder.
What I mean by that is that sometimes, I find Batman’s villains to be more interesting than the Dark Knight himself. I know that’s not great, but it’s a testament to how good his villains are. The likes of the Joker, Scarecrow, Clayface, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Stange, Bane, The Riddler, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, The Court Of Owls, Ra’s Al Ghul… They are all brilliant characters in their own right with fascinating backstories.

The first movie gave us a little taste of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight’s rogue’s gallery. We already saw this universe’s Riddler and got a glimpse of the universe’s Joker. He was played by Barry Keoghan, and we got a closer look at his take on the character in a deleted scene that was released after the movie was in cinemas.
I have to say that I was really impressed by what I saw in that scene, and I can’t wait to see more between Pattinson’s Batman and Keoghan’s Joker.

It does seem as though Reeves has big plans to expand the universe he started with this year’s Batman movie. We already know that he’s working on a Penguin series for HBO Max that will star Colin Farrell, who was also brilliant as the character in the first movie. So, it looks like they are planning spinoff Batman villain movies which will focus on some of the Dark Knight’s best adversaries. I can’t wait to see which characters they end up going with.
This all comes after it was revealed that Reeves and Pattinson have signed on officially to work on The Batman 2. That movie is going to be a pretty big one for Warner Bros Discovery. They seem to be in a rather big financial hole. They’ll be hoping that the sequel and these Batman villain spinoff movies could end up bringing in a lot of money for the Hollywood movie studio. We’re going to have to wait and see whether this ends up working for them. However, I am very glad they are moving ahead with Reeves’ plans because he is a very special filmmaker in my mind.
