Disney Plus launched in the US, Canada and the Netherlands yesterday (not in the UK, but we’re not bitter…), and the streaming service will start a new era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVison, and the animated Marvel’s What If…? series, which I’m very excited about.
Anyway, on Disney Plus there’s a featurette called Expanding the Universe, and it’s all about the MCU and it offers up something incredible first footage of the upcoming Marvel animated series, Marvel’s What If..?.
The series will be an animated anthology series where a character called The Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright) looks at instances of where the MCU could have gone in a completely different direction.
It’s a really interesting idea and is based on a series of comic books which does the same thing.
The series will be 23 episodes long, and most of the MCU actors will be coming back to reprise their roles in the show.
In this featurette, there was never-before-seen footage from Marvel’s What If…?, and it shows T’Challa As Star-Lord; Zombie Captain America attacking Bucky Barnes; Peggy Carter as Captain Carter, Little Steve Rogers wearing WWII tank-style mech armour and Captain Carter riding on the back of the suit as it’s flying around.
The footage also shows a very brief shot of The Watcher. You can have a look at the clips in the some of the tweets below.

Marvel’s What If..? will see the likes of Michael B. Jordan return as Killmonger, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Michael Rooker as Yondu.
Marvel’s What If…? will be available to watch on Disney+ in 2021.
