The Black Widow movie is going ahead and Marvel has hired scriptwriter Jac Schaeffer to pen the script for the Scarlett Johansson led superhero movie.
The Black Widow movie has been in a state of limbo for quite some time now which is utterly ridiculous in my mind. How could Marvel be beaten to the punch by DC Comics to make the first female-led superhero movie? Not only that, but Wonder Woman was great and showed that DC Comics might not be so behind the times as we thought. Marvel’s reluctance to do a female-led superhero movie is quite outstanding especially considering the fact that they already have a great female hero to chose from in Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
Anyway, things might be moving ahead on the Black Widow movie front. According to Variety, Marvel has hired scriptwriter Jac Schaeffer to write the movie. Apparently, Marvel President, Kevin Feige, had met with a number of writers before opting for Schaeffer who’s already impressed people in Hollywood with her Black Listed script, The Shower, which is currently in the works with Anne Hathaway set to star.
The Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson as the titular character is currently in development which will be Marvel’s first female-led superhero film and hopefully, it’ll open the floodgates and show the successful movie studio that there’s an appetite for these sorts of comic book movies. It’s a shame that Johansson’s Black Widow won’t get to be the first since she’s already appeared in so many movies and is so great, but hopefully, this means that she will get her own solo movie which she deserves.
At the moment the project hasn’t been officially greenlit, but this is a good development for the Black Widow movie.
