Marvel Now Owns The Comic Book Rights To The Alien And Predator Franchises

It’s now been revealed that Marvel Comics now own the comic book rights to the Alien and Predator franchises which means we could be seeing new movies too.

This news was revealed by IGN, who reported that: “Marvel Comics has acquired the rights to both Alien and Predator, paving the way for a new line of comics set in this cinematic sci-fi universe.”

There’s a lot of good here, but also some bad.

First off, I love the fact that Disney and Marvel will now be working together on the Alien and Predator movie franchises.

That’s great news because those franchises were starting to go stale over at 20th Century Fox.

These are two franchises that need to be nursed back to health and have the very best people involved in them.

However, as far as the comics are concerned, I felt that Dark Horse Comics was doing a great job with them.

If Disney’s many deals and takeover of other movie studios has done anything, it’s effect Dark Horse Comics’ business.

The comic book manufacturers were doing pretty well with the likes of the Alien, Predator, Star Wars and Firefly comics.

Now, they only have a very select few comic book franchises left, and it’s not down to any fault of their own.

They’ve been making good business by making some excellent comic books based on popular movie franchises.

They’re Star Wars comic books have been legendary, and the same can be said about some of their Alien, Predator and Firefly comics.

I loved the Batman vs. Predator and Alien comics they made.

However, it now looks like we’re going to get the Marvel characters go up against the Captain America and Iron Men of the Marvel comics universe.

Don’t get me wrong, that sounds great.

I’m just a little sad for Dark Horse Comics.

The Lack of comments shows Just how little interest their is in the main two publishers. The bloodbath this week at WB may give Mickey Mouse some ideas for dealing with Marvels mob. The Aliens and Predators comics will be terrible ‘crossover events’ that no one is interested in, and it’ll only ensure loyal fans won’t bother with these. The Star Wars license since being passed back to Marvel has been an unadventurous snooze of ‘meh’ at best and downright canon breaking at worst.
