Mads Mikkelsen has called Johnny Depp’s performance in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald “masterful”. He revealed this during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
It was revealed a few days ago that Mads Mikkelsen would be replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. This was announced following the news that Depp was asked to step down from the role by Warner Bros. Pictures. He still ended up walking away with $10 million in the bank.
However, Mads Mikkelsen only had nice things to say about Johnny Depp and his performance as Grindlewald in the previous movie. He also wished Depp and Amber Heard the best going forward.
Mads Mikkelsen says Johnny Depp’s take on Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 2 was “masterful”
Here’s what Mads Mikkelsen had to say about replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald and Depp’s performance in Fantastic Beasts 2:
Well, it’s going to be me, so that’s a difference. No, this is the tricky part. We’re still working it out. There has to be a bridge between what Johnny did and what I’m going to do. And at the same time, I also have to make it my own. But also we have to find a few links [to the previous version of the character] and some bridges so it doesn’t completely detach from what he’s already masterfully achieved.
Job wise, it’s obviously super interesting and nice. It’s also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad. I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon.
