It’s been revealed that Lupin star, Omar Sy has signed a multi-year deal with the streaming platform, Netflix.
This news was revealed by Variety and we’re so happy to hear this news.
It was also revealed that this is the first-ever deal Netflix has made with a French actor or filmmaker.
According to Variety’s article, this upcoming partnership will “see Sy’s Paris and L.A.-based production company develop original films for Netflix, with Sy starring in and acting as executive producer on the projects.”
Here’s what Omar Sy had to say on the deal in a statement he made:
I have experienced Netflix’s collaboration with artists and their passion to bring unique and diverse stories to homes all over the world. (…) I am happy to have the opportunity to extend the relationship and look forward to this next step of our journey together.
Sy’s breakthrough performance was in the incredible French film, The Intouchable in which he played the lead.
The film was directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s and Sy became the first Black actor to win a Cesar award.

However, it was Netflix’s Lupin that gave Sy international fame.
Sy plays Assane Diop in Lupin and his character is inspired by the French story of thief Arsène Lupin.
The series was created by George Kay, and the first three episodes were directed by Louis Leterrier.
Lupin is now one of Netflix’s most popular series to this day.
Gaelle Mareschi, Netflix’s director of international original film, said the streamer was “excited to now expand our partnership further to bring his creative vision to our global audiences” after working closely with him for a number of years.
Mareschi added:
We look forward to working together with Omar and his team as he grows as a producer and brings more unique stories and voices to Netflix.
