The first ten minutes of Locke and Key have been released online. You can go on over to Netflix’s YouTube page and watch the beginning of the show right now.
Locke and Key is yet another new Netflix Orignal show. They’re making a lot of new shows based on comic book properties.
Locke and Key is one of these such shows.
This new show is Netflix’s television adaptation of the best-selling comic book series by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) and Gabriel Rodriguez for IDW comics.
The comic books are really good, and they’re pretty spooky. I’m hoping that this will translate well to being adapted for television.
After watching Locke And Key first trailer along with its opening ten minutes, I couldn’t help but think that this show has borrowed a lot from The Haunting Of Hill House, which was one of my favourite shows from last year.
Mike Flanagan was the man behind that TV show and he really knows his horror, and his Stephen King, having recently made Doctor Sleep and before that having adapted Gerald’s Game for Netflix.

First off, there’s the creepy haunted house vibe that this new Netflix series has.
This is very similar to that of The Haunting Of Hill House.
It also looks like they’ve just reused the sets from Flanagan’s TV show for this new one, which I really hope they didn’t.
Perhaps they needed to bring down the budget slightly, and this was one way they could do it.
Then there’s the whole ‘locked doors’ aspect of Locke And Key.
This really does resemble scenes in The Haunting of Hill House with the locked red door.
I’m going to be honest, Locke And Key does look pretty good and seems like a more kid-friendly version of The Haunting of Hill House.
Even one of the actors in Locke And Key was in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, Meredith Averill.
That said, it does look like they are going to be some seriously spooky moments in the show judging by the trailer.

Here’s Locke And Key’s official plot synopsis:
After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death.
As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), the series is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakable bonds that define family.
