Lindsay Lohan’s Freaky Friday from Disney might get a sequel if what Everything Everywhere All at Once star Jamie Lee Curtis is saying is true. Freaky Friday is Lohan’s most popular film.
The movie was released back in 2003 and starred both Lohan and Curtis. The body swap film is based on a 1972 book of the same name by Mary Rodgers. The story focuses on the mother and daughter whose bodies have been switched because of a magical fortune cookie.
It was adapted into a film in 1976 starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. It was remade for Disney TV network ABC starring Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffman. In 2016 Disney made a musical stage adaptation version which was remade for TV in 2018, starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.
With so many remakes, you know that Freaky Friday is an important brand for Disney. But none of the remakes has been as popular as Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ version of the film. This is why fans are wondering when a sequel will come out.

In a report by Variety, Freaky Friday lead star Jamie Lee Curtis said:
It’s going to happen. Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.
Nothing has been made official as of yet. But this makes us wonder how real the possibility of a Freaky Friday sequel is. If that’s not enough, Diego Luna, who is known for Star Wars: Andor, had his daughter Fiona talk to Jamie Lee Curtis a few days ago. Fiona is a fan of the Lindsay Lohan version of the film. Curtis said:
I just told her she’s going to the premiere of ‘Freaky Friday 2’ and I told her a secret about it that nobody knows. She’s the only one in the world who knows what I just told her.

The possibility of a sequel seems to be getting close to a reality. Especially with recent reboots, it seems not far off that it could happen. Recently we’ve seen Hocus Pocus 2, which had Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy return to their roles based on a film back in 1993. Disenchanted is another recent sequel that is based on the 2007 film Enchanted. The film also reprised the original cast.
Even though they went straight to Disney’s streaming service, Disney’s sequels and reboots have gotten a lot of attention. Both Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted are considered to be successful sequels for Disney, even though they weren’t shown in theatres.

Not long ago, Curtis also posted a picture with Lindsay Lohan with the caption:
It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!

It’s obvious that Curtis herself wants the film to happen. And with her recent success with Everything Everywhere All at Once, it seems like a good time too.
Even Lindsay Lohan has been getting a boost in her career. Last Christmas, Netflix released Falling for Christmas, which did pretty well. Lohan has had a lot of bumps in her acting career, but she seems to be finding her footing.
Last November, Curtis told Variety that a Freaky Friday sequel is already being discussed at Disney. She said:
There is no scheduled date, but we’re talking. People are talking. The right people are talking.
I’m 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36…[A sequel] lends itself so beautifully. We’re both committed to it, and it’s not ours to make. It’s Disney’s to make and I think they’re interested and we’re talking.
Let’s just try to get another one made. We’re a ways away.
Jamie Lee Curtis knows a lot about reboots. She herself has been in the Halloween reboot (more than once). It also has kept her busy, and it seems she’s having fun with it. Why not Freaky Friday?
