It’s being reported that Warner Bros Discovery has offered Leslie Grace an offer to return as Batgirl in a future DC Films project, but she apparently declined the offer. This new report comes to us from Giant Freakin Robot.
Now, before I go into this report, I did want to state that I believe the cancellation of the Batgirl movie was the wrong thing to do! I was shocked by the news, and it seems as though everyone involved in the project and in Hollywood were just as shocked as I was.
So, what’s going on between Leslie Grace and Warner Bros Discovery? According to the report, Grace had been approached by Warner Bros Discovery to continue as Batgirl in other DC projects. However, they are claiming that Grace said “no” to the offer.
They actually went on to add that her refusal to return as Batgirl was actually rather emphatic and I can completely understand why. Grace was going to star in the Batgirl movie as the titular character.
However, Warner Bros Discovery opted to cancel the movie and claim it as a tax right-off. This is unprecedented in Hollywood because it marks the first time a movie studio has cancelled a film that was already shot and cost them over $90 million.

The movie was shot for the most post in Glasgow up in Scotland. It was directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi. They were the directors because Bad Boys For Life and also directed some of the episodes of Marvel Ms. Marvel series.
It was also reported that they found out about the movie’s cancellation during Arbi’s wedding celebrations, which is just very classy on Warner Bros Disovery’s behalf. Anyway, back to Leslie Grace.
She was also going to be the first Latina actress to lead a big Hollywood superhero movie. It was going to be a pretty big moment, and it’s a shame we’ve been robbed of it.
However, Warner Bros is under new leadership and Warner Bros Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, reportedly didn’t believe that the movie was up to the studios’ new high standards. The film was originally intended to be released on HBO Max.

It seems as though the studio is moving away from releasing movies exclusively on their streaming platform. They’ve also been laying off a lot of people inside HBO Max. So, it seems as though there’s been a huge shift in strategy over at Warner Bros and HBO Max.
I’m not sure which projects they wanted Leslie Grace to star as Batgirl in, but it does look like if they want to use the character in the future, they are going to have to recast. There’s bad blood between the studio and many of the people involved in the Batgirl movie.
