It has taken us years for us to get to this point. This was such an emotional episode that was executed really well. Hope finally makes that decision and everyone must come to terms with this decision. We also got some surprise appearances of some characters that I truly wasn’t expecting to see. This episode (Legacies Season 4 Episode 3) was a long time coming and it really delivered.
HOPE FINALLY MAKES THE ULTIMATE CHOICE IN AN EMOTIONAL FAREWELL

Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) has made the decision we have all been waiting for. It is time for her to activate her tribrid abilities to defeat Malivore (Aria Shahghasemi). This decision wasn’t made without some objections but in the end, everyone seemed to be really accepting. I really liked the final meal Hope and all the students had, to say goodbye to her human form. This scene was really emotional and it also showed how far Hope has come. Everyone performed it really well.
It is understandable that people are scared because no one knows what Hope will be like. She will be one of the most powerful beings in the universe, the first of her kind. There are a lot of unknowns, so it’s only normal that everyone is worried. Yet I liked the fact, that the fear was embraced and everyone came together.
This decision is even harder for Alaric (Matt Davis), because he is scared. Watching him having to come to terms with this was really entertaining. You felt his pain and sorrow. He wanted to do the right thing but really, he knew this day would arrive soon, he just wanted to prolong it as much as possible.
FREYA COMES BACK TO HELP HOPE
Having Freya (Riley Voelkel) come back to help Hope with this was beautiful. Voelkel was just perfect, and the way she delivered her monologue was honestly one of the highlights of the episode for me. Freya explaining the process of dying and using Elijah’s words was tragic and beautiful at the same time. It was a perfectly written scene and performed amazingly. It was also nice that Freya was the one who ended Hope’s human life. It was better that it happened this way than her meeting her death in a gruesome way. Freya may have been the one to end Hope’s life, but it was nice that Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) was the one who made her feel at peace with it. It was nice that Rafael to have his final moment with human Hope too.
LEGACIES HAS BEEN GOING FOR A MUCH DARKER TONE RECENTLY

It has to be said that these past few episodes have felt a lot darker and it is a really welcome change/shift to this show. I hope that now Hope is turning on her vampire side, that the show continues on its much darker tone. Watching Malivore manipulate Hope into killing an innocent person was shocking and it is this darker tone that these shows have always done well with.
Ethan (Leo Howard) finally has a purpose and that is in a way as Malivore’s new right-hand man. I do wonder if Ethan can survive this. However, seeing Howard with something to do is nice, Howard is doing well in this darker role. Just once again, I wish we got to see more of it. Maybe we will in the next episode, however it always feels like a missed opportunity with Ethan. There are the seeds for some great character involvement and it is never seen through.
KALEB HAS GONE TO THE DARK SIDE?
I think it’s strange that Kaleb (Chris Lee) decided to make a deal with Malivore. Was he expecting to be reunited with Cleo (Omono Okojie), inside Malivore but instead he has turned into one of his monsters. I know MG betrayed him but it seems a bit drastic to want revenge by switching sides and becoming team Malivore. It seems like a really strange thing for Kaleb to do and I’m a bit confused why the writers have decided to do this. Kaleb has made a lot character development and now it seems really out of character for him to go so rogue. It’ll be interesting to find out whether Kaleb can be saved as he is a vampire.
JOSIE STANDS UP FOR HERSELF AND PUTS FINCH IN HER PLACE

With all this talk, I’m not too surprised or bothered that the merge was mentioned. I have seen that some fans have wondered why so much attention was put onto it in this episode. However, with Hope going through her transition, which is a huge part of her life, it can be surprising that Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant) are thinking about their own big life decision that is fast approaching.
I really liked the fact that Josie put Finch (Courtney Bandeko) in her place. She told her that she is constantly running because it is easier than staying and fighting. Either Josie and Finch are going to make it work or they should just go their separate ways. I would like the writers to just focus on Josie without throwing her into any relationship possible.
LEGACIES IS FINALLY GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT HOW LONG CAN THEY KEEP IT UP?
At the moment Legacies’ plot is exciting and continuing to grip my attention. I’m really excited about where the show is going at the moment. This episode was full of emotion and massive life choices. The cast did such a fantastic job with this episode and it is probably one of the best episodes that they have done for a long time. I hope that the writers can keep this up and keep the dark tone going for a much longer time.
