Creator: Julie Plec
Director: Barbara Brown
Starring: Danielle Rose Russell, Aria Shahghasemi, Jenny Boyd, Quincy Fouse, Kaylee Bryant, Matt Davies, Chris Lee, Omono Okojie and Leo Howard
We’ve had to wait a week for this episode and from the trailer, it looked as if this episode may be quite silly due to the monster shown and Landon’s reaction. However, it was a nice surprise, a cute monster which turns hideous which was very entertaining. Whilst, MG (Quincy Fouse) has now enrolled into Mystic Falls High with Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and makes a new friend. Back at the Salvatore School Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) put their differences aside and start to rebuild their relationship with each other.
This episode of Legacies Season 3 is split between the Super Squad dealing with the gremlin and Mystic Falls High with Josie and MG trying to keep their secrets hidden. The dynamics of the Super Squad is defiantly broken with now MG gone as well; Cleo (Omono Okojie) is enlisted to join the team to help with the monsters yet something is slowly forming between Cleo and Kaleb (Chris Lee).
Before we continue, there are SPOILERS for Legacies Season 3 Episode 9 in this review.

LIZZIE VS HOPE
Lizzie is furious due to the events from Legacies Episode 8 at Hope, which is completely understandable as Hope put all their lives in serve danger. Hope and Lizzie have such a long history, their relationship is more like sisters than just friendship at this point. These two have always been at odds with one another and that is due to the fact that these characters are a lot more similar than they are different, hence they, therefore, clash a lot, which we have seen a lot of in the past three seasons.
However, it was nice at the end of the episode to have a scene between both characters where we see they do care about one another and are willing to put in an effort for each other. Maybe Hope will replace the Josie shape whole in Lizzie’s heart as now Josie and MG have both left her and she needs to have someone to talk to otherwise she’ll go crazy.
A MONSTER THAT FEEDS OFF DISRESPECT!

The monster of the week turns out to be a gremlin. He starts all cute and pink and causes some havoc like pushing Lizzie into the pool or using Lizzie’s voice to announce Hope had scabies; all of these early scenes are very entertaining and funny to watch. A monster that feeds off disrespect and can only be defeated with respect, it’s not the most amazing or intense thing to watch our characters defeat this monster by being respectful towards one another but on the other hand it provided more growth between certain characters which ultimately helps them with their relationship after the monster is defeated.
FINALLY, ETHAN GETS HIS MOMENT
I’m so thankful we finally got some proper Ethan (Leo Howard) content in this episode, as it has crossed my mind why Leo Howard was made a regular cast member when we barely spent any time with him. I like this new friendship between MG and Ethan, it is defiantly unexpected but it’s a nice surprise. These characters have a true connection and a lot in common which is great to see. It appears as if MG and Ethan have more in common than MG and Kaleb do. This friendship feels really genuine and Fouse and Howard are great in scenes together. Thie friendship works better than I expected but I think that is thanks to the writers also giving us a proper insight into Ethan and how he is coping without his mother and sister but also being kicked out of the football team.
MG was told to compel Ethan to forget about his supernatural abilities, however, MG didn’t do as he was told and we all know that this secret will be discovered sooner rather than later, most likely with disastrous consequences. It’ll be interesting how Kaleb reacts to this; will he become jealous or just grow closer to Cleo instead and forget about MG altogether.
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO LANDON?

Let’s talk about Landon (Aria Shahghasemi). In the previous episode when Landon reappeared it seemed that Landon was unchanged from being trapped in the prison world with his father and all his monsters. However, there is clearly a change in Landon which I am loving.
Aria Shahghasemi performance was so much more enjoyable in this episode. For the first time in a long time, I really enjoyed watching Landon in scenes and that’s because Landon is different. We can assume only the audience see this change as none of the characters have noticed the change. This change in behaviour and personality makes Landon different and exciting to watch because he isn’t just hiding in a corner, he seems stronger, more confident more in control just overall better! There may something dark happening to Landon but I’m not mad about it, in fact I think it’s exciting because it gives us something to look forward to and think about. It appeared as if the prison world hasn’t affected Landon but maybe something more sinister is happening and linked to that mysterious figure/monster/person who came back with Landon.
A part of me still thinks, what if this mysterious figure is Landon but possibly another part of Landon which has been separated from the part we are seeing with Hope. Or what if the Landon we are seeing is actually his father Malivore in Landon’s body and slowly taking him over. Lots of questions and so many possibilities which makes it exciting to see something different happen to Landon not just death or being in love with Hope.
JOSIE AND ALARIC HAVE SOME FATHER-DAUGHTER TIME
Josie is terrified of her normal life being disrupted by the supernatural world she is trying to escape from. Although it was nice to see Josie and Alaric have a proper heart to heart and we really got to feel some emotion from these two characters. Matt Davies is perfect in this little scene between Josie and Alaric sat on Elena and Damon’s front porch. Davies portrays excellently the emotions and struggle of a father trying to let his daughter go and do what she thinks is right but also keep an eye on her to make sure she really is safe and happy. This little conversation between father and daughter gives us a real insight into this relationship and this talk was really needed. Both Kaylee Bryant and Matt Davies shine in this moment and we forget for a moment about the supernatural world and lives they live, and are just witnessing a father and daughter talk to one another and listen to what each other are saying.
DAMON AND ELENA RETURNING?

On a side note, it was nice to know that Josie is staying with Damon and Elena, seeing their home again but this time rebuilt brings back so many memories if you have watched The Vampire Dairies. It is a nice touch for the writers to bring back elements from the previous shows that are still connected to this show. However, it doesn’t quite add up why the town is in more danger than ever before but Damon and Elena are just carrying on with their normal lives but then this could be said for a lot of residents in Mystic Falls. Fans have hoped we would get more Damon and Elena in Legacies but we aren’t going to see the characters come back physically at the moment, so it might have been nicer to have Josie stay with someone else where the actors did want to reprise their role so fans could get what they really want. However, seeing the Gilbert house again is a really nice moment for any fan old or new. I’m interested to see how long Josie and MG will stay at the Gilbert home as the danger is only going to get worse as the series continues.
PLENTY OF MYSTERIES TO LEAVE US WANTING MORE
It feels as if there is more mystery in this season which I’m really enjoying, we have been left with questions unanswered and we want to know the answers. Who is that mysterious person/monster and what has happened to Landon?
The mysterious artefact that Alaric is researching has been passed down through the ages from Albert Einstein to Rasputin to Napoleon and someone in 1933 Belgium if we remember the first scene of this episode which made no sense at the time. We are only told this information at the end about the history of the artefact therefore hopefully we will find out more in the next episode.
LEGACIES SEASON 3 EPISODE 9 IS A STEP UP!

This episode is a dramatic improvement compared to the past few episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed every second. New friendships have been formed and we finally spent some time with Ethan and got to understand more about this character. I’m glad we have gotten to see a new side to Landon and I’m intrigued to know what is happening to him. Everything felt like it has been stepped up compared to the previous episode, performances and writing is much better thus there is pure enjoyment while watching.
