La Révolution was dropped on Netflix recently and it seems to have got people talking. But should you watch it or not? Read on to find out.
This new show is something that I didn’t know much about before it landed on the streaming platform.
Netflix does this quite a lot. They just drop new shows with absolutely zero fanfare.
It’s particular strange that I knew nothing about this show before it was released because I live in France!
La Révolution is a new French series which takes the story of the 1789 French revolution and puts a massive twist on it.
It adds a new virus which causes the aristocracy in France to kill members of the lower class.
The people infected are basically turned into murderous zombie-people who can’t die.
The disease gives the people infected blue blood, which is something synonymous with the upper classes.

If my rather brief synopsis of this new series didn’t make much sense, here’s Netflix’s official one of La Révolution:
1787, France. While investigating a series of mysterious murders, Joseph Guillotin – the future inventor of the world famous ‘Guillotine’ – uncovers an unknown virus: the Blue Blood. The disease, quickly spreads amongst the French aristocracy, driving them to murder ordinary people and soon leads to a rebellion… What if the French Revolution didn’t happen the way we were told?
I’ve now watched the whole series, and it’s my job to tell you whether it’s worth watching.
Before really getting into that, I need to let you all know that this sort of show is right up my street.
I love the slightly bonkers nature of a show like this.
I love the fact that they’ve taken a pretty important historical event and turned it into something completely different.
Some of my favourite movies of all time at Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
It’s not because I’m a fan of Quintin Tarantino’s. It’s actually because I like the idea of watching things that change history.
I know that some people hate this sort of thing, but I’m not one of those people.
Therefore, I loved La Révolution and I would definitely recommend the show to anyone who likes that sort of thing.

However, if you don’t like that sort of thing, then this show will not be for you.
If you are someone who likes their historical shows, movies and documentaries to remain as accurate as possible, then stay away from Netflix’s La Révolution.
That said, what’s the fun in that?
There’s a place for historical accurate dramas, yet La Révolution is not trying to be that.
It’s pulpy, silly, and very, very mad.
There’s action, gore, zombies, scary monsters, sexy French actors acting. All of this is set against the backdrop of the French revolution.
This is not a show about the French Revolution.
This is a horror/action series that happens to be set during the French revolution.
I have seen a lot of people get very angry about this show because they say it’s just ridiculous.
They might be right, however, I found it to be very enjoyable.
As horror series go, I actually had a much better time with La Révolution than I did with The Haunting Of Bly Manor.
And that’s coming from someone who really enjoyed the latest season of The Haunting Of series.
La Révolution might not get a second season on Netflix

As for whether Netflix will greenlight a second season, I don’t think they will.
The show does end of a bit of a cliffhanger, however, it could very easily be a one-and-done sort of show.
It hasn’t been all that well-received by critics and viewers.
That said, it is in the number one spot on French Netflix at the moment, and that’s still a pretty big deal for the show.
I would like to see a second season, but I would also be fine should Netflix decide to call it a day with this new show.
