Kirsten Dunst Might Return As Mary Jane In Secret Wars

Kirsten Dunst could be about to return as Mary Jane in Avengers: Secret Wars! It’s being reported by Giant Freakin Robot that the Spider-Man actor is in talks with Marvel Studios to return as her version of the iconic Marvel Comics character. This would be a pretty big deal if it turns out to be true. I for one would love to see her return to the role after so many years.

This all comes after the Spider-Man actor actually revealed that she would have loved to have had the chance to play Mary Jane again. During an interview with Backstage Magazine, the actor revealed that she’s ready to return as Mary Jane in a future Spider-Man or Marvel Studios movie. Here’s what the actor had to say about wanting to return as Mary Jane Watson in a future Spider-Man movie:

You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids.

This isn’t the first time that she has expressed her desire to return as MJ Watson. She also revealed that she would have loved to play the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home during a previous conversation with Deadline. Here’s what she had to say on the matter during that interview:

There’s still time. I mean, listen, no one’s asked me about anything, but I do think that…I mean, this multi-universe just keeps going on and on. I wouldn’t…I feel like that could happen.

Interestingly, the Spider-Man actress revealed that she still hadn’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet. She revealed this during another interview, this time with People Magazine. Here’s what she said during that interview:

I haven’t. I’m sorry! I know I have to. I know Tobey’s in it and it’s such a huge surprise and everyone’s freaking out. I will. I’ll eventually watch it. You know, I’ll watch it with my son, because he’s starting to get into Spider-Man stuff. There’s, like, a little-kid version of Spider-Man that he watches, so maybe he’ll watch it with me.

So, you can tell by all of this that she is very keen on the idea of returning as Mary Jane, but she wasn’t approached by Marvel or Sony for No Way Home. Honestly, after having watched the movie, it would have been a bit too crowded in there to have Mary Jane turn up as well. I think that having her be re-introduced in Avengers: Secret Wars makes a bit more sense since it sounds as though there are going to be a lot of iconic characters turning up in that movie.

There have been rumours of the likes of Nicolas Cage turning up as his version of Ghost Rider in Secret Wars. I’ve also seen people suggest that Wesley Snipes might be in talks to return as his version of Blade in the movie. We’re going to have to wait and see what ends up happening in that film. However, it does sound as though Marvel Studios is planning something very, very big for Avengers: Secret Wars.
