Marvel Studio head, Kevin Feige, has revealed that he would love to see The Grandmaster and The Collector together in a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
Jeff Goldblum and Benicio Del Toro are wonderful additions to the MCU. They’re both brilliant actors in their own right, yet have also brought their own idiosyncrasies to their Marvel roles. Del Toro’s Collector has that intelligent and dangerous quality while keeping his rather erratic and goofy nature. Goldblum’s Grandmaster is also intelligent and erratic, yet it embodies the role with his playfulness and beautiful turn of phrase. They’re perfect as these Marvel side-characters, yet many people would love to see more of them, and even get the chance to see them share a scene together.
If you didn’t know, the Collector and the Grandmaster are brothers and both Elders of the Universe. They’re incredibly powerful beings who have been around for a very long time, perhaps since the dawn of time (not too sure about that one. Don’t quote me on it). There is a picture displayed at Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! ride in which they are playing some of futuristic version of chess. Fandango had the chance to talk to Marvel Studio’s head, the big cheese if you will, Kevin Feige, and they asked him what he thought about the idea of getting the two of them on-screen together in the MCU:
“It would be awesome man. It would be great. We love the idea that they’re brothers. If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim, you will see a picture on Collector’s wall of he and the Grandmaster playing some sort of a space chess game, which right now is the only place you can see the two of them in a frame together, but let’s hope that changes someday.”
I honestly think that this scene is inevitable since the Elders of the Universe will have to play a big part in these movies going forward. They are so powerful in the comics, even more powerful than Thanos himself, so it would make sense that these beings will end up being more involved in the MCU further down the line. They’ve case two incredible actors in these roles, it’ll be a shame to restrict them to small cameos. We’ll just have to wait and see.
