Lucasfilm’s boss, Kathleen Kennedy, went on The Star Wars Show and revealed how they are already thinking about the next 10 years of the Star Wars franchise.
Just in case you were wondering what was going to happen to the Star Wars franchise after Episode 9, never fear, Lucasfilm is on it. It’s become an institution with both the main saga movies and the spin-offs such as Rogue One and Solo. We’re now getting one movie a year and talking about the Star Wars Cinematic Universe which is becoming more and more like Marvel’s cinematic universe, just set in a galaxy far, far away, and with more lightsabers. Lucasfilm’s big boss, Kathleen Kennedy, went onto The Star Wars Show to discuss all things Star Wars related and had an interesting thing to say about the future of the franchise. Check out the interview in the video below.
During the interview, Kennedy revealed that they are already thinking about the next 10 years of the Star Wars franchise. Here’s what she had to say:
“We’re sitting down now, we’re talking about the next ten years of Star Wars stories and we’re looking at narratively where that might go; future stories beyond Episode 9, with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, but we’re also looking at working with people that are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us to places that we haven’t been yet, and that’s exciting too because it’s a vast galaxy far, far away… The possibilities are endless.”
As Kennedy says, the possibilities are endless when it comes to Star Wars. It’s such a big galaxy and I’m sure there are plenty of stories to be told. The likelihood is that they’ll be a new trilogy of movies which it sounds like will involve Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8, yet the really pleasing thing to hear is that they are looking to work with interesting people to develop new stories. We have heard that director Stephen Daldry is working on an Obi Wan Kenobi standalone movie and there have been rumblings of a Boba Fett spin-off but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
I for one would love to see the franchise go into areas and world’s we’ve never seen before and perhaps take on other movie genres. Who wouldn’t like to see a proper heist movie set in that infamous galaxy far, far away or even a horror Star Wars film! That would be so cool I doubt it’ll happen anytime soon.
As for now, we’re all eagerly awaiting Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, which is set to hit UK cinemas on December 14th. Are you ready?
