Justice League Dark Film With Keanu Reeves Is Possible

A Justice League Dark film might be back on the menu over at Warner Bros Discovery with Keanu Reeves starring as John Constantine. This is according to a new report from Geekosity. Now, their report is rather more speculative than based on anything they’ve heard from their sources. However, their logic does make a lot of sense. Mikey Sutton and Kieran Bugg explain how the next that Reeves is going to be starring in a Constantine sequel paves the way for a Justice League Dark film (which we’ll refer to as ‘JLD‘ from now on).

This might actually be the sort of movie that the new leadership at Warner Bros Discovery might be interested in getting greenlit and in cinemas. They know that Reeves is a box office pull, and should the Constantine sequel – which has been greenlit – be successful, it could demonstrate that there is an appetite for DC Comics movies like this. By this, I mean DC Comics films that lean on the more supernatural elements of the universe.

There have been attempts to make a JLD movie in the past. However, it didn’t end up happening, which is a real shame. But, it looks like the idea could be back on the table over at Warner Bros. Pictures. They are looking for new ways to make audiences interested in their DC films again. Originally, Warner Bros. Pictures had hired Guillermo Del Toro to make a JLD movie. However, the film was cancelled, and it’s yet another Del Toro project that sounded awesome that we’ll never get to see.

However, I would love to see a new version of the film with Keanu Reeves starring as his version of John Constantine. I know that there are some people out there who don’t like Reeves’ take on the character. There are claims that he’s nothing like the character from the comics, and they’re right. He isn’t. Constantine in the comics is blonde and from Liverpool in the UK. We all know that Reeves is incapable of doing a British accent (just watch Bram Stoker’s Dracula for proof of that fact).

So, does the fact that Keanu Reeves is nothing like the John Constantine we know from the comics a bad thing? No, it’s not. I think we should look at it from a different point of view. I think we shouldn’t really see his take on the character as being the same as the one we’ve read in the comics. This is another version of Constantine – one that’s probably more for American audiences, but it doesn’t mean it’s bad.

I have to say that I liked his take on the character in the 2005 Constantine movie. I’m excited to see what he gets to do in this sequel. It’s also great that they’ve managed to get Francis Lawrence back as the movie’s director. He made the first film. It was actually his directorial debut. Lawrence has then gone on to make some of the Hunger Games movies, which were really good. He also made I Am Legend, which was also a pretty good flick. Lawrence is also going to be making the BioShock film, so he’s going to be really, really busy in the upcoming years.
