It’s been thought for a few weeks now that Jonah Hill may have been cast as The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but those rumours have now been put to bed.
It turns out that Jonah Hill is no longer in the running to play the iconic DC Comics villain who was so brilliantly played by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns.
This news comes from Deadline, who reported that two-time Oscar nominee has ruled himself out of the running to play the villain in Warner Bros’ reboot of The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.
It’s since been rumoured that the talks may have broken down due to an issue with money, which would be a sad reason if true.

Deadline also reported that Seth Rogen was being eyed by Warner Bros. for the role, but nothing has been confirmed by either party.
We’re assuming that Hill was in the running to play The Penguin, but Deadline reported that he was up for the roles of either The Penguin or The Riddler.
Personally, I can’t see Hill or Rogen playing either character since they both lack the menace needed for the roles.
Maybe they could have pulled off The Riddler, but personally I love the idea of Nicholas Hoult playing that particular villain.
I think he’d do a fantastic job, and it was reported that he was up for Batman, so why not give him another meaty role in the movie?
As for actors who are confirmed to be in the movie, we have Robert Pattinson who’ll be playing Batman, Zoe Kravitz will be playing Catwoman and Jeffrey Wright will be Commissioner Gordan, and I love that cast so far.
Sounds like Jonah is more ‘chicken’ than Penguin…

As for who could play The Penguin, there are a lot of actors out there who’d be perfect for the role. Andy Serkis, Toby Jones and Timothy Spall would all be brilliant.
Those are just a few names off the top of my head, and I’m sure some of them would love to sink their teeth into the DC Comics role.
That said, Serkis might be a bit busy directing Venom 2 at the moment.
