It’s now being reported that Jon Favreau is actually the one protecting Gina Carano from being fired from The Mandalorian. This rumour comes from Pirates & Princesses, and I must highlight that this is just a rumour at this point. Nothing’s been officially revealed.
There have been many calls by people online and on Twitter to have Gina Carano fired from The Mandalorian. This has to do mainly with the reports that she’s made transphobic comments in the past and has also made her right-wing political views very clear.
She also reportedly liked tweets supporting the recent storming of the US Capitol in Washington DC. However, Carano is still officially employed by Disney and will be playing Cara Dune in The Mandalorian and possibly even the upcoming Star Wars spinoff shows.

Again, as I stated above, this is just a rumour at this point, and the article over at Pirates & Princesses doesn’t really go into how they know this to be the case. They’re claiming that there are two factions within Lucasfilm: The Favreau-Filoni faction, and the Kathleen Kennedy faction.
Personally, I believe this to be a load of nonsense. I do bot believe there’s a divide between Favreau and Kennedy. These are just rumours started by people who want Favreau to take over from Kennedy as President of Lucasfilm. This may actually end up happening regardless of the angry mob on Twitter, and I think it would be a peaceful transition.
What I do believe is that Lucasfilm is keen on keeping Gina Carano around because her character is important to them. Cara Dune is an interesting character, and they can’t recast the role.
