There’s been a lot of talk of late about a possible sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker movie, a Joker 2 if you will, although I doubt they’ve ever call it that.
However, it sounds like Joker’s star, Joaquin Phoenix, isn’t so keen on the idea of returning for a Joker 2 movie, despite the fact that Joker has been incredibly successful at the box office and with a large proportion of critics.
There’s even been talk of Oscars for Phoenix for his performance as Arthur Fleck in the movie, yet it does sound as if the actor sees it more as a one and done kind of gig.
Phoenix recently spoke to The Los Angeles Times who asked the actor whether he would consider returning as Arthur Fleck for a sequel, and he certainly didn’t hold anything back with his response.
“I wouldn’t just do a sequel just because the first movie is successful,” Phoenix said. “That’s ridiculous.”
“Long before the release or before we had any idea if it would be successful, we talked about sequels,” Phoenix added.

“In the second or third week of shooting, I was like, ‘Todd, can you start working on a sequel? There’s way too much to explore.’ It was kind of in jest — but not really.”
The only way I believe Todd Phillips would be able to convince Phoenix to return to the role for Joker 2 is if he writes a script that’s just too hard to say no to.
Phillips’ script for the first movie was what convinced Phoenix to do the movie in the first place, and I’m sure the two would like to work together again.
They seem like a pretty tight nit duo, especially when it comes to Joker.
