It’s been revealed that Johnny Depp will not be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, which is pretty upsetting news if this turns out to be true. This news comes via The Daily Mail, and I have to say that I hope this does not end up being the case. That said, I feel it is true – unless Disney offers the movie star an awful lot of money.
Let’s go into what’s been going on and why Depp won’t’ be returning to the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. A report claimed that Depp’s name had been spotted on a call sheet for a new movie in the hugely popular film series. This then resulted in a barrage of rumours circulating on the Internet on Wednesday after the report claimed he would be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow despite being axed from the franchise by Disney in 2018.
Johnny Depp not coming back as Jack Sparrow…?

However, The Daily Mail’s sources have claimed that this information was actually false and that there are no plans to bring Johnny Depp back into the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. This all comes after it was revealed that the Margot Robbie Pirates movie had been cancelled by Disney, which honestly, doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
Depp last played Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. That movie was released in 2017, and then the film’s producers. and Disney decided to part ways with Depp and claimed that they wanted to bring in “new energy” to the hugely popular movie franchise.

However, the common consensus was that Disney’s decision to part ways with Depp had more to do with the actor’s ex-wife’s claims that she was a victim of domestic abuse whilst she was married to Johnny. Depp has since won a very public defamation case against Amber Heard, and it seems as though the tides are turning for the iconic actor.
He’s being cast in movies again, and there have been reports that Disney has offered the actor a lot of money to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. However, it sounds as though those rumours weren’t 100% accurate.
The Sun reported that he would be coming back as Jack Sparrow

So, what was initially reported, and why do people think Disney is planning another Pirates movie with Johnny Depp? An insider has told The Sun that a sixth film in the franchise was in the works with a working title of A Day At the Sea. They claimed that:
Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top-secret location in the UK.
The report then went on to claim that the insider told The Sun:
Everything is in the early stages, and there is still no director attached to the project, which is being called A Day At The Sea.
The source continued:
Johnny is expected to do a test shoot in early February before the production gets fully underway. A call sheet has been distributed among those in the know. Bruce Hendricks, who worked on the first three films, is named as the Executive Producer on the new project.
The Daily Mail has said it’s not happening

But, The Daily Mail claims that this report from The Sun is incorrect and that there are no plans to bring Depp back to play Jack Sparrow. We’ll have to wait and see which outlet ends up being correct.
However, it does seem as though there is some movement in this space, so what I’ll say is I’ll keep my eyes and ears open. I’ll let you know if I hear anything about Johnny Depp returning to play Jack Sparrow.
