The upcoming John Wick spinoff Ballerina movie has us very, very excited, and we finally have a release date for the film. This all comes after John Wick: Chapter 4 smashed the franchise’s box office records earlier this month.
So, Lionsgate has confirmed when the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, is set to be released in cinemas. However, it seems as though we’re going to have to wait a while before we get to watch the movie in theatres.
Following John Wick: Chapter 4’s incredible performance at the box office both in the United States and worldwide, it seems as though Lionsgate is very keen on keeping this action movie franchise train going.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake revealed in an interview with Deadline that the film is planned for a 2024 release date. He revealed that the movie is being planned to be released in either “the spring or summer” of that year.
The movie is going to star No Time To Die and Knives Out star Ana De Armas. She was also recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde.
De Armas proved in No Time To Die that she’s very much able to shine in action set pieces. I would argue that she stole the show in the James Bond movie, and she was only in a very small part of that film.
However, she blew audiences away in the movie, despite her minimal screen time. She ended up being a much more interesting character than Daniel Craig’s Bond, and I think she had a much better fighting style.
It’s been revealed that this Ballerina movie is going to focus on Rooney. She is a dancer-turned-assassin for the ruthless Ruska Roma crime family, with which John had dealings with himself in the original series.

The character, who will be reintroduced on a quest for revenge, was actually first glimpsed in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. However, in that film, she was played by Unity Phelan.
John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves), Charon (played by the late Lance Reddick), Anjelica Huston (as The Director), and Winston (played by Ian McShane) are all expected to make cameos in the film. They’ll all be joined by an incredible supporting cast, including the likes of Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.
The movie’s writer, Shay Hatten, recently told Screen Rant this movie is going to explore and widen the John Wick universe. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
I think, in Ballerina, you’ll get to see some of the hints of what John experienced during his origins in that place but through the eyes of a different character. It still solves some of the answers of [John Wick], just through the eyes of a new character.
