Jennifer Aniston is easily one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood thanks to her time on Friends and her subsequent performances in the likes of The Morning Show and the Murder Mystery movies.
I loved her as Rachel Green on Friends, and I’ve been really happy to see her back in the spotlight recently with a string of hits for Netflix and Apple TV Plus.
Aniston is also a prolific producer, and it’s been revealed that she’s developing a new version – otherwise described as a “reimagining” of the 80s comedy, 9 To 5.
9 To 5 was released in 1980, and it starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton. It’s also the movie that gave us Parton’s iconic song, 9 To 5.
You remember the one. It goes “working 9 to 5… What a way to make a living…” It’s a pretty good tune. Well, it’s iconic.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Aniston and her Echo Films partner Kristin Hahn are reimagining 9 to 5 for 20th Century Studios.
This is an interesting development because there was a previous remake in the works.
Rashida Jones (who wrote Toy Story 4) was writing it. Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps production company was developing the movie.

However, Sneider also revealed that Diablo Cody, who won an Oscar for his work on Juno, wrote the movie’s latest draft.
The insider also added that the original movie’s writer, Patricia Resnick, will keep the story credit. He also added that she might get production credit for this upcoming remake/reimagining.
The film is being developed over at 20th Century Studios and Echo Films, and it’s being reported that this picture has been in the works for quite some time now.

It’ll be interesting to see who they end casting in this new 9 To 5 movie. I’d like to see Aniston herself have a role in it, but we’re going to have to wait and see what happens there.
I have a feeling that, if done properly, this new version of the iconic 1980s film could end up being a real smash hit for 20th Century Studios. We are in desperate need of some more films like this, and ones that make us laugh.
Just look at how well Sydney Sweeney’s 2023 hit Anyone But You did at the box office. People want to laugh again, and I think this 9 To 5 movie couldn’t come soon enough.
