Jason Momoa To Play Two Characters In The DCU?

It seems as though Jason Momoa might be about to play two characters in the DCU, at least, if the recent rumours are anything to go by, but how could this be achieved? It’s rumoured that Momoa might be about to play the iconic DC Comics anti-hero, Lobo, and I’ve always thought he’s much better suited to playing that role than Aquaman. However, I would also argue that he’s an excellent Aquaman.

This all comes after Momoa revealed in an interview that he’d see one of his dreams come true under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership at DC Studios, which sounds fantastic to me. Momoa then revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com that he’s a big fan of the comic books and teased that there’s one character he’d love to play. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Well, everyone knows I’m a comic book fan. The comic I collected the most, and I have every comic there is… you can do your research and find out what it is.

During an interview with ET Canada, Momoa had this to say about the future of the DCU under Gunn and Safran’s leadership:

I think with Peter Safran and Mr. Gunn at the helm now at DC, I’m very excited about that. There are a lot of cool things that are going to be coming up and one of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch, so stay tuned.

This is what started the speculation that Momoa might be talking about getting to play Lobo in the DCU, meaning that he could end up playing roles in the DC Universe, which would be unprecedented. Could he be playing them at the same time? Very possibly. The thing is, as far as I’m concerned, he was born to play the role of Lobo, and I think he’d be better suited to playing Lobo than Aquaman. That said, I do think he’s excellent as Arthur Curry.

Over the years, several actors have revealed that they’ve wanted to take on the role of Lobo in a live-action project. Despite the character’s popularity in animated series and movies, the anti-hero hasn’t appeared in live-action, and there haven’t been any rumours of Warner Bros making a live-action Lobo movie.

I think he would be a great addition to the DCU, and I feel he will be part of Gunn and Safran’s plans for the DCU. Lobo could become the DCU’s answer to Deadpool, and we already know how popular that character’s turned out to be with moviegoers.

One high-profile actor that’s thrown his name into the ring to play Lobo is The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

“The only one I want to play is DC and Lobo. He’s badass,” Morgan said a couple of years ago. But, he’s always wanted to get that movie done. “Lobo would be very cool. I don’t think that I’m as big as Lobo is, but if you could transplant Mickey Rourke’s body on my head, that would be just great,” he said praising the character.
