James Gunn has released his final film for Marvel and tells fans about the future of Guardians Of The Galaxy’s possible sequels.
Gunn, will be focusing on the DC Universe after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. It’s been a long time coming. Gunn could have possibly made more Marvel films if not because of his long hiatus with Disney.
Once he returned, he did the best he could to make this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy end on a high note. He even added a Holiday Special to boot.
So far, Marvel has had a rough string of films and TV shows. They seem to be doing too much with so little time. But GOTG 3 has been one of the best highlights of Marvel’s recent films.
With the film ending, all of the members of the team resolve their issues. Meanwhile, Gunn is leaving the franchise. Because of it, many doubt if there will be another sequel.

In an interview with Esquire, Gunn said:
I don’t think there will ever be a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4. There’s many reasons this group will not be back. There could be more Guardians movies, but it won’t be with this group.
There are characters from the original team that could potentially show up if there would be a sequel. If you’ve seen the end credits, then you know who we mean. But there is very little reason for them to come back as they were.
Actually, Gunn has prepared us for this even before. He teased the original team and then some in one of the mid-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. It featured some of the members of the original team from the comics. While this doesn’t mean that they will be the new Guardians, it just means that things can change.
The Guardians of the Galaxy members in the comic books change. The ones we know of in the film are based on the 2008 version of the team. They were introduced in Annihilation: Conquest No. 6. A newer version of the team which was introduced in 2015. They appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 No 1, which included Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, Agent Venom, X-Men’s Kitty Pryde, Fantastic Four’s The Thing, and Angela.
While the characters could have reasons showing up, behind the scenes Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have said that they are done with Marvel. Bautista has been saying that GOTG Vol 3 would be his last as he wants more serious roles so that he can focus more on acting.

Chris Pratt, on the other hand, is open to returning, but there must be a reason for his character to return. He said:
So, to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honor what he’s [James Gunn] done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it, you know?
I don’t want to be cynical in the approach and if that’s the case, I just wouldn’t do it at all. So maybe down the road if something makes sense I would do it but it would really have to check a lot of the right boxes.
Gunn has also expressed that he does want to see a fresh new take on the Guardians, as he loves seeing a different style. It’s something he intends to build and see in the new DC Universe he is working on, where directors can shine. He said:
I think as long as somebody brings themselves to it, and doesn’t just try to copy that style—I think it can be really amazing. And there’s so many directors I would like to do that. And I would love to see it happen.
After promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, and once Writers Strike is over, Gunn will be returning to work on Superman: Legacy and building the whole DC Universe.
There is a chance that we will see a new Guardians of the Galaxy sequel since it was hinted at in the latest film. But unfortunately, we won’t be seeing the old team back again.
