James Gunn revealed on Twitter that his third Guardians movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will be hitting cinemas in 2020.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was easily one of the best comic book movies of this year and in my opinion, James Gunn managed to improve upon what he started with the first Guardians movie. He’s been pretty busy since completing the second movie. He’s already working on the script for the third Guardians movie and he was asked on Twitter during a Q&A when the third film will be coming out to which the writer/director took the opportunity to reveal that the movie would be hitting cinemas in 2020. Check out his tweet below.

Gunn didn’t specify which date the movie would be coming out on in 2020 but Marvel’s already bookmarked May 1st, August 7th, and November 6th so it’ll most likely be one of those dates in 2020. We’ll just have to wait and see which one. Gunn also took the time during the Q&A to address people’s questions regarding Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox and how that might change the third movie. Check out Gunn’s response on that matter below.
As of today, I wouldn’t find adding any of those characters interesting. I really am more of a fan of the Abnett/Lanning stuff as opposed to the stuff that came after the movie or first screenplay. https://t.co/6XdrYtGv1s

So, it looks like the Disney/Fox merger won’t be changing Gunn’s plans at all. There won’t be any X-Men turning up in his movie and he also revealed that Michael Rooker’s Yondu will not be coming back to life in the third Guardians movie.
