James Gunn, one of the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, has responded to the reports of huge and sweeping changes in the upcoming DC lineup of movies and TV shows. The report came from The Hollywood Reporter, and I have to say that it shocked a number of people, including myself.
They reported that the Man Of Steel 2 sequel might not be moving ahead, that Wonder Woman 3 had been cancelled, that Aquaman 2 was going to be Jason Momoa’s last time playing Arthur Curry, that Henry Cavill’s cameo in The Flash had been cut and they also added that the Justice League actors might all be recast. This is all pretty major stuff, and it basically confirmed that the SnyderVerse was going to be over under Gunn and fellow CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran’s watch.

So, what did the new co-CEO of DC Studios have to say? Well, he, of course, took to Twitter to react to The Hollywood Reporter’s blockbuster article, and he had some choice words to say about it.
In his Twitter thread, the new co-CEO of DC Studios said: “Some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.”
Gunn continued: “Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning.
“Peter [Safran] & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.”
He added: “But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.
“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.”
We all need to have a little patience

In the final post of the thread, Gunn asked fans for their patience: “As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer.”
So, what does this all mean? Well, it seems as though it is true that big plans are underway over at DC Studios, and there will be big changes. However, Gunn was keen to stress that he and Peter Safran are doing everything within their power to protect the DC Comics characters and stories that the comic book company is so well known for. I think that can only be a good thing, but I know that there are people out there who will disagree with me. Let’s just wait and see what happens.
