It’s been revealed that DC Studios’ James Gunn is writing a new Superman film which won’t star Henry Cavill. The movie will feature a younger version of the Man Of Steel. However, Gunn also revealed that the film would not be another origins film about how Clark Kent becomes Superman. That’s good news!
The bad news is that this movie will not star Henry Cavill, and this marks the end of his era playing the Man Of Steel. I genuinely believe that Cavill’s version of the DC superhero is the best we’ve ever seen. I even think that his take on the character is on par with Christopher Reeves’. That might make a few people mad, but the issues with the DC movies that Cavill starred in were never down to the British actor. They were all done to poor writing and storytelling.

James Gunn revealed this news via Twitter, and he had quite a bit to say about this new Superman movie that he’s working on. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Gunn then posted a series of tweets in which he explained what’s going on over at DC Studios when it comes to Superman and Henry Cavill. Gunn revealed that they won’t be working on a new Man of Steel movie with Cavill, however, he and Safran spoke to Cavill about a “number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.” Here’s what Gunn had to say on the matter:

Who could play the Man Of Steel, and who could direct this movie?

Gunn was then asked by one of his followers on Twitter whether he would be writing and directing the movie. Gunn revealed that he is writing it, but they don’t know who’ll direct the film yet. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

One of the things I’m interested in knowing is which characters they have in mind for Henry Cavill should he agree to play another role in the DC Universe. I would love to see him play Jor-El. That would be pretty interesting. However, I do think that audiences might find that a little bit too confusing. I know that many people will be saying that Jason Momoa could be recast as Lobo in the DC Universe.
However, that’s slightly different because Superman is more well-known than Aquaman is as far as more mainstream audiences are concerned. I also think there’s no one better in Hollywood than Momoa to play Lobo. We’re going to have to wait and see what happens, but I have faith in James Gunn and Peter Safran. They know what they are doing, and I can’t wait to see what happens.
