James Gunn was forced to take to Twitter to confirm that he’s still alive after Deadline posted an obituary for another person called James Gunn. You can have a look at Gunn’s post on Twitter.
The article in question was actually an obituary for a James E. Gunn, who was a prolific science-fiction writer. He died at the age of 97. But, when the article was first published on Deadline, it didn’t have that information in the headline.
Therefore, quite a few people thought the obituary was for James Gunn – the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie. He had to take to Twitter to let his fans know he wasn’t dead.
No – James Gunn is still alive, but James E. Gunn has sadly passed away
For the record, I’ve gotten dozens of messages from close friends & relatives who read this headline quickly & freaked out. I am alive. Different James Gunn – may he Rest in Peace. (But, @DEADLINE, you might have considered wording this differently). https://t.co/etdcTB1h4o

So, for all you DCEU and Marvel Cinematic Universe fans out there, don’t worry. James Gunn is still with us. However, we have a lost a very good science-fiction writer. That said, at 97 he had a very good innings (as we say in the UK).
