The new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, has recently addressed David Ayer’s Suicide Squad cut, and fans want to know if he’ll release it. So, on November 6th there was a movement on Twitter to try and get the hashtag #ReleaseTheAyerCut trending, and it worked. #ReleaseTheAyerCut ended up trending on the social media platform, and Gunn addressed it and the future of DC Studios.
It was revealed a few days ago that James Gunn and Peter Safran were the new co-CEOs of DC Studios and would be overseeing the ship moving forward. I think that this is a great appointment from Warner Bros Discovery, and I can’t wait to see what they end up doing with the upcoming DC movies and TV shows. I think that Gunn is a terrific filmmaker, and Safran is a very talented producer.

Gunn then continued this thread and added that they are “listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey, & will continue to do so for the next few years.” He then added that their “initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects.”

There has been a lot said about the Ayer Cut over the last few months/years. However, we haven’t heard much about what Warner Bros. Pictures plans to do with the movie. David Ayer has been supporting fans online who’ve been calling for his cut of the movie to be released. However, he’s also been much quieter than he was about the whole thing in the past. We were actually informed that the cut did exist, and then that was revealed to be the case by Ayer himself on Twitter.
It was reported that some of the big voices behind the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement on Twitter got to watch Ayer’s final cut of the movie. This was confirmed by Ayer again on Twitter. So, now that we know that the movie exists, what should the new heads of DC Studios do? Should they release the movie on HBO Max or maybe even in cinemas? Or, should they ignore the movement? Well, the fact that Gunn addressed the movement publically makes me think that it’s only a matter of time before they end up releasing the movie to the general public.

It’s made even more fascinating because Gunn directed The Suicide Squad, which was the sequel/reboot of the 2016 Suicide Squad movie. It will also be interesting to see what Gunn and Safran decide to do given that the film stars Jared Leto, who is reported as being an actor that Gunn does not want to work with in the future. Would that bring Leto back into the fray if they release the movie? We’re going to have to wait and see.
