Inside Man has been pretty popular on Netflix since it was made available to watch on the streaming service, which has led to a lot of people wondering about an Inside Man Season 2. Will there even be a second season of the new series, and if so, when could it be released, and who could star in it? These are all questions that we’re going to try and answer for you in this article, and we’ve also going to go over which actors could return for a second season.
The first season of this new BBC thriller was honestly, a difficult watch for me. I found it tense, frustrating, intriguing, and a bit silly. The series, which first aired on the BBC and then got a wider release on Netflix, stars Stanely Tucci and David Tennant. Tucci plays a criminology professor Grieff who’s been imprisoned for brutally murdering his wife. Grieff is on death row, but he has something of side-hustle solving crimes he finds interesting. People actually come to him with their cases, and he solves the ones he finds fascinating. He’s a bit like a mixture of Sherlock Holmes and Hannibal Lecter. Brilliant, yet also dangerous.

Stanley Tucci is this show’s real highlight. He’s just brilliant and was the reason I stuck with the show. David Tennant plays a vicar called Harry, who ends up in a whole of trouble when one of the members of his congregation comes to him with a thumb drive and begs him to hide it from his mother. However, Harry then forgets about it until he returns home, takes the thumb drive out of his pocket and leaves it by the side of his front door.
In a rather convoluted plot device, Harry’s son’s maths tutor ends up seeing what’s on the thumb drive and believes that it belongs to Harry’s son. Harry tries to talk to her about it, but in another convoluted plot device, the maths tutor ends up in chained up in Harry’s basement. In yet another convoluted plot device, the maths tutor prior to going to Harry’s house, befriends an investigative journalist (do you see why I keep on saying “convoluted plot device”), and she ends up going to Grieffs when she feels something has happened to her new friend.
So, there you have it. That’s the show’s plot, and I have to say that I found this new series to be incredibly annoying. But, the ending and its popularity has led me to believe that there could be room for a second season. The series’ shining light was Tucci, and I think there could be room for another season, but focusing on Tucci’s Grieff’s, and not David Tennant’s Harry. Honestly, if I have to hear David Tennant shout, “I’m the bloody Vicar!” again, I might just scream!
Thankfully, an Inside Man Season 2 doesn’t look like a possibility at the moment. The show’s creator, Steven Moffat, revealed during an interview with Radio Times that he sees Inside Man as being a one-and-done sort of show. However, he did tease the possibility of a spin-off show, which I think would be more interesting. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
The story will end in four episodes. It’s done by the end of that. As to whether or not you could ever spin-off anything or do any kind of sequel? I don’t know at this moment. Television is littered with shows that had one season and pretended they could carry on. I would never want to be one of those, where you’re so excited to get a phone call about doing another run that you do it and then realise, actually, the story is finished.

As for when a second season could be released, I think it’s much more likely that the BBC might opt to make another show with Steven Moffat that stars Stanley Tucci as Grieff. What I mean by that is I think a spin-off show is much more likely, and I get the feeling that Tucci enjoys playing the role. I really think there’s room for more of Tucci’s character in the future.
All of this means that giving you a release date for Inside Man Season 2 is nigh on impossible since it seems as though the second season isn’t on the cards. I’m sorry I can’t give you something more concrete here, but I have done a lot of research into this and it really does seem as though that’s it for this new BBC series.

As I stated above, I think it’s highly more likely that the BBC might opt to make a spin-off rather than an Inside Man Season 2. I have a feeling that we might get to see more of Tucci’s character and see him solve yet another mystery. Or, we could see some of the character’s backstory and learn what really happened between him and his wife. That would be quite interesting.

The only actor I truly see returning for a second season is Stanely Tucci. However, we could see the likes of David Tennant in a second season, but that would be very surprising to me. I would doubt that any of the show’s other cast members would return for another season.
That said, Beth Davenport, played by Lydia West, did seem to build quite an interesting relationship with Tucci’s character. Seeing as they both found themselves intrigued by the other, they may end up teaming up again for a new mystery or in an Inside Man Season 2.
