Idris Elba has revealed that he would love to star in a movie in which his The Suicide Squad character, Bloodsport, fights Superman. Elba revealed this during a recent interview with Variety. He first played Bloodsport in James Gunn’s DC Comics movie, and he was just brilliant in the film.
The movie actually hinted at Bloodsport and Superman’s history. We didn’t get all that much, but it was revealed that Bloodsport was able to shoot Superman, and he did so with a bullet made out of Kryptonite. This was revealed by Amanda Waller in the movie. It was a pretty cool moment in the movie, and I think that everyone that heard those lines immediately wanted to see that happen in live-action. However, the James Gunn movie ended up making Bloodsport a sort of hero, so maybe that might be a bit of an issue for audiences should that end up making the movie.

Here’s what Elba had to say when he was asked whether he’s like to star in a movie as Bloodsport in which he gets to fight the Man Of Steel:
I would definitely like to tell the Superman story. There’s no doubt, Bloodsport versus Superman. It needs to happen.
Would this ever happen in the DC Universe? Possibly not. The current state of the DC Universe is very uncertain, and it does seem as though the leadership inside Warner Bros Discovery isn’t interested in doing more of these sorts of ‘spinoff’ movies. They want to focus on making big DC Comics blockbusters and really lean on some of their legacy DC Comics characters such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. This means that we might be seeing fewer movies such as The Suicide Squad.

We already know that Peacemaker Season 2 is in the works. That series will be made for HBO Max and is being written by James Gunn as we speak. It was also revealed that he will be directing every single episode of the second season. He only directed a handful of episodes in the first season, and it seems as though he wants to take an even more hands-on approach with the second season.
So, what could happen is that we might get to see Idris Elba turn up in that series as Bloodsport. I think that might be the most plausible way to get to see him back as the character in the DC Universe. I highly doubt that Elba will ever get his own Bloodsport movie with this current leadership in charge. It’s a shame because it would make for an incredible movie. But, given the fact that Warner Bros Discovery is tightening their purse strings and only greenlighting the biggest possible blockbusters, I don’t think they’ll ever greenlight a Bloodsport-focused movie.
