It’s being reported that Sir Ian McKellen is going to be making a comeback as the iconic X-Men villain, Magneto, in the MCU. This report comes to us via Giant Freakin Robot, and interestingly enough, it’s something that we’ve also heard from our own sources that could be a possibility. Now, we weren’t specifically told that he’s definitely coming back, but that it was a “possibility”.
Giant Freakin Robot’s sources, however, went a step further. They informed them that the iconic British actor was going to be returning as Magneto in Avengers: Secret Wars. This would be a huge deal if it ends up happening. It does sound as though the idea as it stands is to bring back many of the X-Men and former Marvel movie actors back for what will be a cinematic extravaganza.

It really does look like this upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars is going to be utterly insane. We’ve already heard rumours of a bunch of actors and characters returning for this movie. We’ve heard that Marvel Studios is trying to work out a deal with Sony so that they can bring both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire back as their respective versions of Spider-Man. We also heard that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might be infected by Venom in this movie.
We’re now hearing that the X-Men and The Lord Of The Rings actor could be returning as Magneto in the movie. I’m also pretty confident that if McKellen is returning, then we’ll also get to see Sir Patrick Stewart back as Professor X. We recently saw him in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, and that sent audiences the world over wild! It does seem as though Marvel Studios is really leaning into these sorts of cameos moving forward.

Avengers: Secret Wars was announced by Kevin Feige during Marvel’s Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. It was a pretty big moment and he also revealed that there would be two Avengers movies released during Phase 6 in the same year. The first one will be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. They then revealed that the movie is going to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. He directed Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings for Marvel and is also working on a Wonder Man series for Disney Plus.
There is so much to look forward to if you’re a Marvel fan. Phase 5 is now getting underway, and it looks like it’s going to be the maddest phase of the MCU yet! I, for one, cannot wait to see what ends up happening. I’ve also been hearing rumours that Hugh Jackman will be returning as a version of Wolverine in the MCU. Secret Wars is slated for release on November 7th, 2025, so we have a few years to wait before we get to watch the likes of Magneto and Professor X return to the MCU.
