For all of you who’ve been waiting for more information about Hobbs And Shaw 2, it looks like the latest news we have for you isn’t all that good, I’m afraid. It was revealed after the first movie was released that Universal Pictures was planning on making a sequel with Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba all returning.
However, it seems as though there have been no new developments on the future of the Fast And Furious spinoff. Dwayne Johnson played Luke Hobbs, and Jason Statham portrayed Deckard Shaw. Both characters were introduced in the main Fast And Furious franchise, and they were then given their own spinoff movie together, and you know what, I thought it really worked. The movie was released back in 2019, just before the pandemic really hit the world and Hollywood, but it didn’t get great reviews. However, it did very well at the box office.

It seems as though the people behind the Hobbs And Shaw franchise aren’t in a rush to make a follow-up movie. One of the film’s producers, Kelly McCormick told ComicBook.com: “We would love to. There’s no conversations at this time.”
The thing about the first movie was that it really left a lot of room open for a sequel. We saw the introduction of two new characters towards the end of the film, played by Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart (of course).

“I do feel like there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and a Ryan Reynolds and sort of all that kind of stuff,” McCormick added.
“And that was intentional, but not necessarily because we had plans in mind, just because it would be fun to have different players for them to play with if anybody or we wanted to go for it in a different way.”
She added: “So, you know, I don’t know, I mean Dwayne’s a really busy guy and you know, he would be the one to motivate all of that. So, you know, we’re ready if he wants to, and until then he’s just dominating, so all power to him.”
You have to do the sequel in ‘a beautiful way’

Speaking further about the potential for a sequel, McCormick suggested that “you’re obligated to do that in a beautiful way”.
“So, I’m not saying that there might not be something that we might jump into, but you know, in my opinion, even Deadpool and Hobbs & Shaw, we were twisting into different parts of those franchises anyway,” she said.
“That was one of the reasons we chose them, as well, if that makes sense. I think we have to feel like we can put our stamp on something, which if it’s a really identifiable franchise is sometimes hard to do and not really very interesting to us.”
