It’s that time of the year again! It’s the time of the year when we all here at Small Screen get together and reveal our top films of 2020. What we’ve done is chose 5 of our favourite films from 2020 each. This hasn’t been easy for us, because there haven’t been too many movies released this year (thanks COVID-19).
There’s also the fact that the year still isn’t quite finished, and there’s always one film that comes in towards the end of the year that people really end up loving. Last year, for instance, we had the likes of Jojo Rabbit released at the very end of 2019 in some markets. It was released in 2020 in the UK, so what we’ve decided to do with this list is have it span from January 2020 to December 2020, and we’ll be working off of UK release dates. This means that Jojo Rabbit can be included in this top films of 2020 list.
Full disclosure, we’re releasing this list before Pixar’s Soul and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman 1984 are released worldwide via either cinemas, Disney Plus or HBO Max. So, that’s why you might not see these films on our writers’ lists. That said, one of our writers did get to see Wonder Woman 1984 in the UK.
Even despite COVID-19 basically putting the pause button on Hollywood, there have been some great movies released in 2o20. There have been some great horror movies, dramas, rom-coms, holiday films, sci-fi pictures and thrillers. So, without any further ado, here are Small Screen’s writers top 5 films of the year 2020:
