The very first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife hit the Internet the other day, and people watched it and then claimed that the movie looked like a Stranger Things rip-off.
I’ve watched the trailer multiple times now and I’m going to have to agree with these people who took to Twitter to point out the similarities between the two properties.
The movie will be directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the director of the first two Ghostbusters movies, Ivan Reitman.
Jason Reitman also helped pen the script along with Gil Kenan and people have been really looking forward to watching the movie after the rather lacklustre effort made by Paul Feige with the previous Ghostbusters movie.
Fans didn’t much care for the previous Ghostbusters movie. Personally, I didn’t think it was incredible, but there were moments in the movie I enjoyed and it certainly didn’t deserve the vitriol it got online.
It certainly looks like Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be a return to the Ghostbusters world we know from the original movies, yet fans couldn’t shake the feeling that they’ve seen something rather similar to the Afterlife trailer.
Turns out it was Stranger Things, and they took to Twitter to comment on the obvious comparisons between the Netflix series and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
People are getting angry about Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s similarities to Stranger Things
Just watched the new Stranger Things season trailer, and it's called 'Ghostbusters' for some reason.

So it's a Stranger Things ripoff and not a Ghostbusters movie? At least lady Ghostbusters tried to be a Ghostbusters movie. https://t.co/NKDVQxOJJd

Two 30somethings at a random Starbucks: “what if they did like Stranger Things but it’s Ghostbusters. Get like Paul Rudd or something. Everyone likes him.”

It is pretty clear that Ghostbusters: Afterlife shared a lot of its DNA with Stranger Things, but it might have something to do with the fact that Finn Wolfhard is in both properties.
Wolfhard seems to be in all 80s-inspired projects nowadays having starred in It, Stranger Things and now Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
The film also stars Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd, while Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts will all get to reprise their roles from the original Ghostbusters movies.
