Today we learnt that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff & D.B. Weiss had left their Star Wars trilogy, and they claimed that it was due to their historic deal with Netflix making their schedule far too busy.

An anonymous source told the outlet that Benioff and Weiss were actually fired from the franchise due to the heavy criticism they received after their final season of Game of Thrones was released.

However, I highly doubt that Lucasfilm would have hired them if they didn’t have an idea of what they wanted their series to be about.
I reckon that if they were indeed fired, it would have more to do with their recent deal with Netflix, which would have undoubtedly angered Lucasfilm if it meant that they wouldn’t have enough to juggle both projects.
Kathleen Kennedy wouldn’t feel comfortable letting Benioff and Weiss do a trilogy if they had an eye on this Netflix series.

Kennedy and Lucasfilm would rather have someone be utterly dedicated to a Star Wars trilogy, which is why I believe they’re now going to lean heavily on Rian Johnson and whatever he’s doing for them.
I said it before in an earlier article, but I really do believe that Benioff and Weiss leaving the project is a good thing for Star Wars because I don’t trust their creative ability and I think they would have been preoccupied with their Netflix project.
