Snowpiercer actor Daveed Diggs has reportedly been offered the role of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in Marvel Studios’ the Fantastic Four.
There are high expectations for the MCU’s reboot of the Fantastic Four. Many fans want to see who Marvel’s first family would be. While many got excited seeing John Krasinski portraying Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was never confirmed that he would be keeping the role. He was only a variant.
Recently, casting news about the team has been rampant. Many names are floating around, but it’s hard to tell who is actually going to get the role. So far, we’ve heard reports that Adam Driver (Star Wars) has accepted the role of Reed Richards. There are also reports of Paul Mescal possibly taking the role of the Human Torch, aka Johnny Storm, but there are also reports that his schedule could have some conflicts which prevent him from accepting it.
Regarding Sue Storm or Sue Richards, there are several names mentioned, from Margot Robbie (Barbie), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), and Jodie Comer (Free Guy) were reported to be in the running. She’s a very critical part of the team, so it’s not so easy to cast her. Marvel is taking the time to find the right Invisible Woman.
But what about Ben Grimm? In what seems to be aligned with our earlier report where Marvel has already found the actor for The Thing, a recent update seems to support the rumour.

According to a report by Giant Freakin Robot, Marvel has officially extended an offer to Daveed Diggs to play the role of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in the upcoming Fantastic Four film.
So far, there is no news if he has accepted the role or not.
Daveed Diggs is a multi-award-winning actor, rapper, and singer-songwriter. He is best known for his roles in the television series Snowpiercer and the film Blindspotting. He also originated the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical Hamilton, for which he won a Tony Award.
Diggs began his career as a rapper in the experimental hip-hop group Clipping. He has since appeared in a number of films and television shows, including The Good Lord Bird, Black-ish, and Extrapolations. He will next be seen in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, where he will voice the character of Sebastian.
I really like the idea of Diggs taking on this role. I enjoyed his performance on Snowpiercer, and I can see why he’s a person of interest in possibly taking the role.
One added thing with the actor is that he is Jewish, which is the same religion as Ben Grimm. While The Thing hasn’t prominently shown that he is, it is part of his identity and was originally shown wearing a yarmulke and even reciting a Jewish prayer in the comic.

The Thing has been played by three actors, namely Michael Bailey Smith, Michael Chiklis and Jamie Bell.
Smith was involved with an unreleased Fantastic Four film back in 1994. It was noted that even though the film had that B-movie feel, Smith’s performance stood out as one of the best performers of the film.
Michael Chiklis had two films which were The Fantastic Four (2005) and The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). He starred with Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, and Chris Evans.
Jamie Bell portrayed Grimm in Josh Trank’s film in 2015. The film was widely known for its troubled production. With the departure of the director, the studio made significant edits to the film, implemented script changes, and faced various challenges throughout the process.
As for Daveed Diggs being offered the role of The Thing, it is an exciting prospect. Given Diggs’ talent and previous performances, it would be interesting to see his portrayal of the character. However, since there hasn’t been a full confirmation yet, we will have to wait and see.
