There’s been so much positive stuff written about Disney Plus‘ upcoming Ms. Marvel TV show, but now, they’re getting a lot of flack due to some casting decisions. They were getting a lot of praise for having cast Iman Vellani in the lead role. She is going to be playing Kamala Khan and people were glad that Marvel and Disney hired a Muslim to play their first Muslim superhero.
However, it’s now been revealed that Andrew Brodeur (Tall Girl) has reportedly been cast in Ms. Marvel based on what he’s been saying on social media. He’s known to be facing some pretty bad gender discrimination charges. It’s also been suggested that Disney and Marvel is about to cast Yasmeen Fletcher (Andi Mack) and Zenobia Shroff (Soul) as Kamala’s best friend and mother, respectively in the show. The two characters are Muslim in the comics, yet the actors are not.
This has angered a lot of fans of the comic book character and people that were really excited to see this show. So much so that the hashtag #FixMsMarvel is now trending on Twitter, and even fan accounts of the show have now said they no longer support the show due to these reported casting decisions. You can read what @MsMarvelNews, which was a Ms. Marvel fan account, had to say on the matter yesterday via Twitter.
Fans aren’t happy with some of the casting decisions in Ms. Marvel
In light of the recent controversies in casting choices, we at Ms. Marvel News would like to say that we are not associated with the Ms. Marvel streaming show, and we do not condone them. #FixMsMarvel

Yasmeen Fletcher has not done anything as egregious, but we find it inappropriate that a half-white Christian girl was apparently cast as Nakia Bahadir.

It’s also been rumoured that The Walking Dead’s Matt Linz has been cast to play Kamala’s friend Bruno Carelli in the show. Now, he’s supposedly a Donald Trump supporter due to some tweets he liked on the social media platform. That said, Lintz has since written a letter that he posted to social media denying the allegations made against him. However, Disney and Marvel might want to rethink some of their casting decisions after all this controversy.
Marvel was really hoping that they could have a pretty easy win with this show after having cast Vellani in the lead role. However, not everything is perfect in this world. I’ll let you know if anything changes moving forward. Ms. Marvel is set to hit Disney Plus sometime in 2021.
