It seems as though Disney is currently working multiple sequels to 2021’s huge hit, Encanto, at least if Disney’s CEO is to be believed.
This news comes after Disney’s CEO, Bob Chapek, referred to Encanto as a “franchise”.
This makes completely sense to me since the movie’s been a massive hit for the House Of Mouse.
They made a terrific first movie, and there’s clearly a big world beyond the magical Casita and the local village.
While speaking about the success of Disney’s recent films during the company’s quarterly earnings call on Wednesday’s afternoon, CEO Bob Chapek referred to Encanto as the “launch of a new franchise.”
There haven’t been any new projects based in the Encanto world announced by Disney yet.

That said, Chapek’s words here are extremely telling.
He wouldn’t have referred to Encanto as a “franchise” if they hadn’t already had multiple sequels to the movie in the works.
They’re already making Moana and The Princess and the Frog TV shows on Disney Plus.
Movies such as Wreck-It-Ralph and Frozen got theatrical sequels.
It seems as though they have plans to turn Encanto into one of their biggest franchises.
This would include both movies and TV shows.
We have it on good authority that this is the case.
An insider revealed to us recently that: “Encanto has been massive for Disney.”
They then added that: “movies, TV shows… the lot have all been put into motion.
Lin-Manuel Miranda helped come up with the story for Encanto and wrote new music for the film.
The film stars Stephanie Beatriz, Maria Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Jessica Darrow, Diane Guerrero, Angie Cepeda, Wilmer Valderrama, Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers.
