This could be massive news if it turns out to be true. There are rumours that Disney is looking to purchase the movie rights of Spider-Man from Sony Pictures for between 4 and 5 billion dollars.
This rumour comes courtesy of Yahoo! who initially got it from Mikey Sutton. Mikey runs a Facebook group called Geekosity — All Things Pop Culture.
The reason why they think this could be a good tip is because Mikey has a good track record at leaking tips which turn out to be true.
Mikey has in the past leaked news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DCEU, and there’s not much reason for him to lie about this one.

Sutton revealed on his Facebook page that Disney is really interested in just buying the movie rights of Spider-Man from Sony Pictures, which would ensure that Marvel Studios gains complete control over the Marvel Comics character.
This would mean that they wouldn’t have to go back to Sony once their current deal comes to an end and have to renegotiate a new contract.
It would also mean that Sony would have to give up their rights to characters such as Venom and Morbius, which would put a huge dent in their movie plans with those characters.
According to Mikey, Disney would like to get this deal sooner rather than later because there’s also Apple lurking in the background who could end up putting a real spanner in the works.
Apparently Disney doesn’t want to wait for Sony and Apple to get moving.
Could Spider-Man really be coming home to Marvel?
This is exactly what Mikey had to say about Disney purchasing the Spidey movie rights from Sony:
“SCOOP – 10/9/19: Disney wants to buy Spider-Man.”
“While rumors have circulated before the Sony-Disney dispute of such a purchase, it was mere speculation, especially the erroneous high number that was quoted. What I’m hearing is that Disney is looking to offer in the range of $4 to $5 billion for Spider-Man. But now the questions will be asked.”

If they do end up purchasing the rights from Sony for $5 billion, which means they could end up spending more money of acquiring the rights to Spider-Man than Star Wars, which is crazy to me.
However, Spider-Man is arguably the most important character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially post Iron Man, and they wouldn’t want to be reliant on Sony Pictures to use the character moving forward.
I would argue that Spider-Man is vital for Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, so Disney might end up moving heaven and Earth to ensure that they bring Spider-Man home.

Within my own heart, I see a new trinity consisting of Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and Black Panther, as for Sony Pictures however, since the fallout between Sony and Disney two months ago, I couldn’t trust the former to handle the Spider-Man rights on their own, mostly how it started with Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire, and the Amazing Spider-Man 1&2 with Andrew Garfield, though there were only four things which I did like from those two films, the mysterious briefcase, the suit and the web shooters from the first film, and the underground Roosevelt subway station, which was turned into a laboratory from the second film.
For Tom Holland, I see him, as the best Spider-Man, surpassing both Maguire and Garfield, thus I respect and trust him 5000, so if Disney does buy the rights for either $4 or $5 billion from Sony, then that’s something I don’t mind, but I’d rather not get too excited, otherwise there could come grave disappointment, but who knows what the future will hold, anyway for Holland, keep up the good work as Spider-Man (Spidey), as you’ve become the best.
