It’s been looking like this was going to happen for a while now, but it’s now been officially confirmed that Free Guy has been delayed indefinitely. Yep, the Ryan Reynolds movie is no longer going to be coming to cinemas on December 18th.
This news comes to us from Variety, who reports that Disney opted to push the movie indefinitely. This means that there is no new release date for the film as of yet.
Hopefully, they’ll reveal a new one soon and that it will still be coming out in 2021, and not in 2022, which would be a bit of a disaster as far as the movie’s concerned. This does come after Ryan Reynolds and the film’s cast and some of the crew made a video in which they joked about when the release date could be.

The reason for the delay is pretty clear. It all has to do with COVID-19 and mainly the fact that many European countries have gone into lockdown and have shut all cinemas.
The UK, France and Germany have all gone into lockdown and they are still key areas as far as Hollywood cinema releases are concerned. Therefore, should the film be released in December, they will end up taking a huge hit at the box office.
There’s also the fact that people will not be going back to the cinemas any time soon due to the current pandemic. Things won’t end up going back to some kind of normal until a vaccine has been made available.
It was also revealed that Warner Bros. Pictures had delayed Death On The Nile indefinitely as well. The only remaining tentpole movie left in 2020 is Wonder Woman 1984, and it’s looking like that one will be pushed pretty soon.
