When Disney bought 20th Century Fox, the first thing I thought was, ‘What’s going to happen to the Deadpool movies?’ Well, the Deadpool writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, were on-hand to reveal that Marvel is going to let them carry on making R-rated movies.
There was a moment when I genuinely believed that Disney would just scrap Deadpool altogether, but in retrospect, those films made too much money for Disney just to ignore them.
Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick recently opened up about the future of the Deadpool movies during an interview with Entertainment Weekly whilst promoting Zombieland: Double Tap.
Will the Deadpool writers be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

“We’re always in touch with Ryan… I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out.
“Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.
“Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.
“Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”
It’s true that Ryan Reynolds has been pretty busy since the last Deadpool movie came out, Deadpool 2, however, I would have assumed that he’d be making this franchise his priority.
So, given this fact, it’s a bit strange that Wenick mentioned how busy he is. That said, I do like the idea of Ryan going to sleep thinking about Deadpool.
He obviously really cares about the character and the franchise. Had Disney not bought Fox, I would bet good money on Deadpool 3 being in development now.
Given the fact that Deadpool 1 and 2 made so much money at the box office, it would be safe to assume that Disney and Marvel would like to explore the R-rated market in the future, and Deadpool offers them that opportunity.
Will Disney greenlight Deadpool 3?

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have proven themselves able to write really successful Deadpool movies in the past, and Ryan Reynolds is hugely popular as the character, so why fix something if it isn’t broken?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney and Marvel Studios were to announce Deadpool 3 in the very near future, once they’ve sorted out exactly what they’re going to do with the X-Men franchise.
Perhaps they could just let Deadpool live in his own universe, where Josh Brolin is Cable. It could be the start of the multiverse, which would be epic if you ask me, and I might just right an article all about how good an idea that would be…
I just hope they do let Wernick and Reese, as they put it, ‘play in the MCU sandbox’ sometime soon. We need something different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Do you think Disney will greenlight Deadpool 3?
