Could Deadpool Help Bring The Multiverse Into The MCU?

There’s been some news on Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It looks like Marvel Studios is going to let them go ahead with the third film, which may or may not be called Deadpool 3, and that’s good news for everybody involved.

This news comes after Deadpool and Deadpool 2’s writers – Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese – revealed that Disney and Marvel are letting them carry on with the franchise, and they’re going to keep it R-rated.

Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick revealed this during an interview with Entertainment Weekly whilst promoting Zombieland: Double Tap.

“We’re always in touch with Ryan… I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out.

“Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.

“Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.

“Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”

This is all very good stuff, and I for one cannot wait to see what they get to do. But, it also had me thinking, could this mean that Marvel Studios could open up their universe to the multiverse?

They toyed with the idea of the multiverse existing in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but it turned out to be a massive ruse.

However, the fact that they brought the idea into the MCU means that they might want to bring it in for real further down the line.

Deadpool would be the perfect foil for this. He would be able to come into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and just riff on absolutely everything that’s been going on in the world of Disney and Marvel, and joke about Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

It would be so perfect, and now that I’ve thought about it, I can’t stop. It would be a great way to bring Deadpool into the MCU without having to reboot the character.

This means that Ryan Reynolds could get to keep on playing the role for as long as he wants to.

It would also open up the MCU to so many more possibilities, and so many more threats too.

They did sort of toy with the idea of a multiverse in Avengers: Endgame. Well, it was more time travel, but the Avengers time-travelling all over the place might have done some long-lasting damage to the ‘space-time-continuum…’ or whatever.

Captain America going back in time and living his idea of a perfect life might have done some irreparable damage which might result in Deadpool and Cable arriving on the scene.

Imagine how hilarious it would be to see the Avengers see Josh Brolin as Cable and then automatically flip out.

Deadpool would have to explain what happened. I just think it would be a great scene and be so meta, which is what Deadpool is all about.

What do you think of this idea of Deadpool bringing in the multiverse into the MCU?
