Let me start by saying if you were a fan of the first two Deadpool movies (like I was), you’ll probably really enjoy Deadpool & Wolverine!
This Ryan Reynolds-led comic book movie vehicle is basically more of the same, just with more Disney and Fox jokes and even more cameos!
Oh, and I forgot to add that this Deadpool film features much more of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine than the previous ones.
The fact that Jackman’s Wolverine is in this movie is one of the main reasons why I believe this film is performing so well at the box office.
Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine…

It’s genuinely HUGE that he agreed to return, and I think it’s a pretty good return for him in the role.
That said, I am a huge fan of Logan—it’s easily one of my favourite comic book movies ever made. I would have been happy for that to be his final time playing the comic book character, which he said it was at the time.
However, it seems as though Marvel and Ryan Reynolds are going to make Jackman play Wolverine “until he’s 90”! That seems a bit mean to me… but oh well… I guess it is what it is…
As far as the film’s plot is concerned, it’s pretty basic stuff. Deadpool needs to save his universe after Logan’s death, and he does this by going into the Multiverse in search for a new Wolverine to replace the one that died in Logan.
However, with a little meddling from the TVA, they end up in the ‘void’, which is how the movie is able to have SO MANY cameos!
Some of the cameos in this movie are genuinely terrific, and it means that the film can have a lot of fun with these characters without having to really worry about the repercussions of killing any of them…
If you’ve watched the movie, then I’m sure you’ll know which cameos I’m talking about…
Is there a lack of substance here…?

That said, I do feel the movie lacked any real substance. The plot is very formulaic. I found Emma Corrin’s villain to be incredibly one-note, even though I thought that Corrin did the very best she could with the script she was given.
I think this movie’s main issue is the script. It was far too focused on telling jokes and getting as many characters and cameos on-screen as possible, that it wasn’t too bothered with whether the story made any sense.
Deadpool & Wolverine is a return to form for the MCU

That said, the film delivered some of the best and funniest action set pieces ever seen in the MCU, and I do think that Deadpool is “Marvel Jesus” of sorts in the sense that this was the Marvel Studios movie I’ve enjoyed the most for a very long time.
It’s far better than the likes of The Marvels, Thor: Love And Thunder, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and I’d even say that this was more fun that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, which had a similar number of cameos, but in the end just didn’t deliver.
So, all in all, it seems as though Deadpool & Wolverine worked. It’s fun, funny, witty, action-heavy, a little lacking in the script and plot department (but aren’t all comic book movies these days…?), but overall, it’s a good film.
Deadpool & Wolverine is currently playing in cinemas worldwide!
