David Ayer Hints His Suicide Squad Cut Might Be Released

It seems as though David Ayer might have hinted that his cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad movie might be released in the not-so-distant future. This comes after James Gunn and Peter Safran became the co-CEOs of the newly-formed DC Studios.

Gunn and Safran have big plans for the future DC movies and TV shows. It’s been revealed that the movies and TV shows that they are working on will be part of what they are referring to as the DC Universe.

These projects will be aside from the likes of The Batman Part 2 and Joker: Folie A Deux, which will be part of DC’s Elseworlds. That means these movies will take place in another universe from the one in which the DC Universe movies and TV shows will take place.

So, why do we believe that David Ayer has been hinting that his cut of Suicide Squad might be released? It all comes from a recent tweet of his. People have been asking the filmmaker constantly about his Suicide Squad cut.

One fan posted a screenshot of an image that Ayer had previously shared via Instagram Stories. The image was of Jared Leto’s Joker, and it was one we hadn’t seen before.

The fan wrote (translated from Spanish):

I don’t think @DavidAyerMovies is very cool with @JamesGunn regarding the Ayer Cut…

However, Ayer actually replied to this, saying (also translated from Spanish):

I spoke to him a while ago. We must have patience. He has the right to put together his new universe before revisiting the past. Cheer up. Good things are coming 😉

So, it seems as though Ayer and Gunn have been talking about the Ayer Cut, which is excellent news indeed. Judging by this tweet, things are brewing, which suggests that DC Studios might be thinking of releasing David Ayer’s cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad, which I think would be the right thing to do.

What I find interesting is the fact that Ayer is talking about his movie again. A few years back, the filmmaker took to social media to tell his followers and fans that he would no longer be talking about his cut of the movie.

However, it seems as though things have changed. Ayer is posting images from his cut of the movie again, and he’s talking about it publically again. All of this is great news for those of us who really want to see the movie.

A few months back, a Twitter user revealed that Ayer himself showed him the full cut, and the filmmaker confirmed that this was true. According to the user, the movie was basically finished and just needed a little bit of work here and there.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether the Ayer Cut will ever be released. My gut is telling me yes. However, I’d be interested in knowing how Warner Bros. Pictures might be planning on releasing the movie.

The most obvious way forward is to release it on their streaming platform, HBO Max. However, the platform isn’t available worldwide, and I think it would be great to get to see the movie in theatres.

I think that a limited theatrical run would be a fun way to release the film, but I have a feeling that Warner Bros might not go down that route.
