Danny Boyle has confirmed that he will direct the next James Bond movie, Bond 25, and that Trainspotting scribe, John Hodge, is writing the script.
There’s been a lot of chatter recently about who will direct the upcoming Bond movie, which will be the 25th film in the franchise (that’s a lot of films). One name that kept on popping up was Danny Boyle’s. He’s directed some really excellent films, such as Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine (it’s a great movie), Steve Jobs, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and Shallow Grave. He’s easily one of the best British directors working today and would be the perfect fit for a Bond movie.
After Daniel Craig confirmed that he would be returning for one last time as Bond people started theorising over who would direct. Names like Christopher Nolan, Edgar Wright, Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie were thrown around, but in the end, Boyle came out from seemingly nowhere to become the frontrunner.
The filmmaker recently admitted that he would indeed be directing the next Bond movie to Metro US journalist, Gregory Wakeman, after a special screening of his new FX TV show Trust at New York’s Florence Gould Hall Theater.
“We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now,” revealed Boyle.
He then went on to confirm that John Hodge is writing the script. Boyle has worked with Hodge on Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, Trance and T2 Trainspotting. “We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away,” he said.
This sounds very promising indeed and hopefully, Boyle and Hodge can come up with an idea and a film that will let Craig go out on a real high. I loved Casino Royale and Skyfall, but Spectre was a bit of a letdown, and the less said about Quantum Of Solace, the better. Craig deserves one last hurrah, and I think that Boyle’s the man to deliver that.
